Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

DONT QUIT YOUR JOB, JUST QUIT WORKING

Don't quit. Just stop doing a good job. Show them how much they really need you. Use the time to look for a job. Take them for any penny you can squeeze. GET PIPED then take that money too and smile on your way out to a better life

@2lxm+1aagAXID, @2dct+1aagAXID Good points, I completely agree with that strategy. But Exxon’s entire management from section heads and supervisors all the way to DW are also just milking it while they can to line their own pockets, so they probably don’t care.

I would like to tell my spineless supervisor that he needs to be NSId.
In the meanwhile, I will stay, do the bare minimum and milk XOM. That’s the way I can pay them back in their own coin.

You could just tell your supervisor you want to be NSId. I’d love for people to tell me they want to leave so I could keep the people who want to stay and help those who want to leave leave.

Seems like a lot of the people who disagree with slacking off haven’t worked at EM. They would have seen the people who have done nothing for years and got promoted because they were “team players” while the ones, who were keeping the place running were ranked lower. EM has a screwed way of valuing people. My advice, don’t do someone else’s work, if they don’t do it, well then it won’t get done, expose the do nothings. Don’t risk your physical or mental health, do YOUR job and nothing more, then work on your exit plan.

Last August, two of my colleagues (both solid performers) got PIPed while some slackers were untouched. One of the PIPed colleagues took the PIL while the other passed the PIP. The guy who passed PUP got laid off in December.
All this has brought XOM integrity into question for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if I get piped this year even if I perform well.
Anticipating that, I am doing exactly what the OP said - doing the bare minimum while drawing a paycheck.
XOM reaps what it sows!

When your kids give up on you and boot you to the curb later in life, don’t ask where they learned it. From good old dad. What you deserve Op.

Agreed with you @gat. I personally find this type of action unethical and displays a lack character. Of course I am not saying that XOM is blameless in its treatment of employees, but I think you should just quit if you do not plan on doing what you are paid to do. Our job roles are not explicitly stated when we join the company, therefore, there are times when we may be assigned more work than we can handle. We didn’t sign a contract stating we wouldn’t be overloaded at times. If you can’t handle the work, say something about it or quit. But it’s still your job. My old role had me working anywhere from past 10pm - 2 am for about 25% of the month. But I wasn’t going to make my coworkers suffer with extra work because I wasn’t completing my tasks and was trying to game the system.

I agree with mjf. If you've behaved as a true professional for your career and your Company is not reciprocating then it's time to plan a change. Dont let them drag you into their sewer.

As jacked up as the company is right now, I disagree with this mentality. Do not let them drag you down and stoop to their level. Keep your head up, keep fighting and doing what’s right. Every person has to answer actions one day. Even these managers.
