Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

On my way out

This might not be a popular opinion here, but I am leaving (early retirement) bearing no ill will towards the company. I've spent more than three decades of my life here doing the job I love. Yes, things have changed over the years and not for the better, but that can't erase all the good years I've spent here and all the amazing people I've met who are going to be a part of my life for as long as I live. I wish all the best to those of you who are remaining. My only advice to you is this: if you're truly unhappy, look for another job. Life is too short to spend a third of it hating what you do.

@2vof

At 16 months from RE, you’re considered NRE and would have to sc--w up royally to be released. All you have to do to make it to RE is show up.

OP - count your blessings that you were able to ride the heavy train during good times and looking forward to a happy retirement. But please spare us your advice.
I have seen how the company fake PIPed some of my solid colleagues and feel jaded. So, I bear ill will towards the company. My revenge - I will continue to collect a paycheck while doing the bare minimum needed. The kicker is I have figured out the stupid ranking system to make sure I don’t get PIPed.
Sad part is I know some intelligent and hardworking folks will get PIPed again this year because they don’t know or learn how to play the ranking game. Hint - it has nothing to do with delivering results.

Despite what this forum says, some people legitimately enjoy their career at EM (note I’m not one of them). If you fit the mold it’s not a bad place to be in terms of wlb to pay. You won’t be obnoxiously wealthy but a couple nice cars, McMansion in spring, college savings for your kids and a few vacations? You bet.
