Thought's on CEOs Comment About Honeywell Worked Shortage

"We have far more openings than I'd like, frankly," Adamczyk said, even with the company raising wages. He cites several factors behind the worker shortage, including health concerns, childcare issues and enhanced unemployment benefits.

Wasn't it MM himself that said in one of the recent video dog and pony shows for the quarter that (to paraphrase) - The solution to our problems is not to go out and hire a bunch of people and throw them at the issues. We have the right number of people now. MM the yes man doing what he is told. DA is connected to WS bankers, he talks to them not us. DA is a liar and could give a sh*t about any employee.

@kbk - Not sure he is clueless, but he is a liar. He is 100% about cash through cutting expenses. Anyone have issues trying to get a charge number (useless) lately. I know managers who have been trying hard to hire folks and HR will not let them via not responding - reqs. created and no response, multiple follow-ups, no responses. Young, old minorities, doesn't matter. No one says you can't hire, no one says hiring freeze, but can't get reqs approved. People retire or leave company and are not back filled. "Wages being raised" example of a lie. Maybe he is talking about a few cent wage increases in Indier, Mexico and that Hon can't find talent in 3rd world countries.

Oh, you sweet summer child!!! You laid off 20% of your workforce through COVID! Everyone is running for the exits!

Pretty sure Honeywell's anti remote work policy isn't going to help the shortage. The fact that its major competitors have embraced flexible work won't help either

This leadership team is nothing more than a line up of bobble heads......Da has built this culture and put leaders in place that do not dare to challenge his strategy, but he is wondering why no one wants to work here. He picked a winner in MM and Maddog has picked young, unqualified leaders as well all because they will always say yes. Looks like HW is getting exactly what they deserve. Glad I'm not part of this any longer.

DA, TM and MM built a billion dollar Aerospace past due, unimaginable for a genuine going concern operation. Then they realized they could get away it because 1) customers had no short-term supply alternatives and 2) Honeywell had no long-term interest in servicing most of those customers anyway. As a bonus, aerospace nemesis and bully, Boeing, was completely distracted by its Max issues. And then, the jackpot - a crisis to justify a strategic purge of experienced, highly compensated employees. Must have been the happiest Labor Day ever for them. As a second bonus, the election of Biden meant they could continue, if not accelerate, moving operations outside the US with minimal political risk. Ah, stock option heaven!
The only slight miscalculations may have involved assumptions around their ability to eventually replace purged labor and to continue moving operations overseas. They probably thought there would be ample qualified, cheap labor in the US and that inexperienced newbies would have sufficient technical background and management skills to continue to efficiently move labor intensive operations into Mexico. In the end, though, they don’t care. After all, there’s an army of white male Jr VP’s, directors and sr. directors to blame for those problems.

Among other reasons, a lot of capable people handling multiple projects are leaving as they forget to grow them and missed to gauge the market improvement. Now they need to hire 2 or 3 people to compensate the work of 1 person (remember the Pareto principle) and want to pay minimum salary. I guess you could solve the equation now.

With the massive RIFs, almost everyone left in Olathe Aero being forced into the elbow (intentionally), and most getting a cumulative "increase" of less than 2% for 2 years, it's no wonder that they can't even find contractors to work there -- unheard of!

Scuttlebutt is that the members of the Captain's Mess gave out the absolute minimum increases and returned the rest to corporate. That, combined with the massive spikes in gas prices and inflation since Jan. 20th, and more crew are looking for a more seaworthy vessel.

What you all fail to realize is, this will be his justification for more outsourcing and offshoring. This the key to ki----g vast segments of business they don't want to be in.

He will never take the blame for the difficulty filling those openings. Definitely, it's because of all those other factors he listed. What a victim!

A quality leader making up bullshlt excuses while never asking if his own business decision to RIF so many people might be part of the problem.

"We have far more openings than I'd like, frankly"

Sounds like someone might be starting to regret the 20,000 employee layoffs he green-lighted over the last 14 months. So many employees gone in a such a short period of time leads to extreme chaos, churn, and a bad reputation. See previous comment from someone, "You reap what you sow".

He is the biggest reason for his 'mythical worker shortage'. 20% rif another 20% quit due to horrible culture and the rest are giving less than 50% of what they are capable of (milking HON!). Making things worse are hiring in low cost countries and 'diversity initiatives' which increase non productive headcount

What a clueless friggin dinosaur. If HON wants to attract top tech talent, they need to pay top tech salaries, allow remote work, and have 3 year contracts AT A MINIMUM. It's literally what every other top tech company is doing. This isn't 1975 or whenever you graduated from college. In 2021, no one needs or wants to play the commuter game to sit in a windowless gray cube for 9 or 10 hours per day to do the same work they could do from home. Take a look in the mirror buddy. You're a finger pointing dinosaur. Time to step down and let someone new figure out how to attract talent because shareholders and analysts don't have faith in this disco and bellbottom jeans era "strategy".

"even with the company raising wages"

NO. The wages weren't raised. Not for new hires or for current employees. All bonuses were cancelled except the ones for executives. STOP MAKING SHlT UP.

It's almost like people are doing company research before figuring out whether or not to invest the time in submitting an application to Honeywell! Everyone can spot the fake reviews on Glassdoor. People aren't stupid.

Why would anyone want to work at a place where they will be laid off in a heartbeat? There is no job security especially in the US. HON follows a first in first out practice. New hires beware.

Is he serious? He just RIFed at least 18% of the workforce in 2020! At least double digits RIFed in 2021 too. The mental gymnastics of this guy is just stunning.

Cash plays Dairyass. There is a shortage of workers willing to do 120% EEI at cr---y pay while being threatened with the elbow. Increase pay 30-40% to fairly compensate overtime hours that creep into family obligations. Morale would be restored quickly.

The word is out! HW is a lousy place to work, virtually no career development or opportunities (except for the very few, mostly the suck ups), decreased benefits, zero job security, and an end to remote work. Salaries below the prevailing wage in many areas because the ranges were continually cut for years. Too funny that he would make those comments considering that they constantly track "regrettable losses." Of course, people who leave don't tell them the truth just like leadership never told them the truth. You reap what you sow!
