My position was eliminated April 2021. I had just received an exceeds expectations performance review and a nice raise only to be blindsided 2 months later with a layoff. Why is the company letting go of an employee who performs well? Doesn’t make sense.

If you didn't sit in your boss's office for an hour every day, complimenting her wardrobe and listening to stories about her kids, you were expendable. Didn't matter how much work you got done. You didn't play the game. Or maybe that's just me.
At the end of the day we are all line-items on some VP's cost ledger. I was laid off after ten years at Optum. Fours and fives on my Performance Reviews each of those years. Built a high-performing team and had NPS scores in the 90's. It didn't matter. If you want to work hard and achieve, do it for yourself and your personal satisfaction of a job well-done. And always with the realization that as you advance in the organization that your expense line is all someone in power may focus on.
If you are over 50, performing well and at the top of your pay scale.. you are gone. I was laid off last year from UHC. I promise you.. the grass is greener on the other side. My new job rocks.. I cannot believe I went into a depression after getting laid off. put UhC in your rear view mirror! They suck!
So true! They keep you if you are the bosses BFF. The company is hiring so age discrimination is BIG!
@clp is correct. You had it coming, it was a political hit because you worked too hard and made the rest look bad. Plus, your boss probably felt insecure that you might go after her job. It is a her right? A guy wouldn't be that devious.
Cost is number one and if you’re 50 or over that’s the reason. Another reason is your not a favorite. Performance is not taken into consideration.
