Some argue that you are less likely to be cut if you have more skills. I don't really believe it, because I know of people who had very specialized skills, but Allstate got rid of them very easily. Anyway, I'm interested in what are the specialized skills that are advisable to learn in order to increase the chance of staying in this company?

I don't even have any good skills. You know like nunchuck skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills. Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills!
Focus on transferable skills, the ones that will make you more marketable outside of insurance. I guarantee every person (except agency) is viewed as a cost center. Even if you are the only one with expertise in an area, you will be shown the door if you have high salary or an insecure manager.
When I was in Uniondale before the dispatch layoff, out MCM used to say "make yourself more valuable". So some of us took advantage of that and got our adjuster licenses, learned excel, power point, etc. BUT the favorite is the one that was moved into a job. Doesn't matter what you do. A layoff can certainly be a blessing for sure.
Strategic A*kissing is the most useful skill at this crp ho-e. You cant just kiss A, you have to do it in a specialized way. Also being related to higher ups in the company is a sure fire way of job security and promotion. Any kind of nepotism and favoritism is a plus at companies like this
Skills that make you irreplaceable? I’d say PowerPoint presentations. Our leaders obsess over that bu-----t. They care more about that than they do anything tangible. Welcome to the great illusion. A very anti-intellectual culture
There's specialized skills and then there's useful skills. Finding something that is both will help keep you employed.
