Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Looks like age is now a liability at Centene

The older you are and the more years you've spent with the company, the better your chances of either being fired, laid off or pushed out in some other way. Instead of making sure to keep its best employees happy right where they are, Centene is always looking for ways to get rid of us. I'm betting you the ELT will end up regretting this, but by that time most of us will be gone.

This just happened to someone in my department and they are in their 70s. Rumor was that they got fired bc they were behind in their work but at the same time we're all being dumped on. It's crazy.

That’s true, but they lay off enough newer staff to cover up. Most big companies like to cut the staff over 50. Making a lot of money, less technical - although the core leadership at Centene falls into the 50 plus age. They protect themselves.

Absolutely correct. Management here is asking people here their retirement plans supposedly for planning purposes, suggesting people don't fit in with the new model, accusing people of being resistant to change, unwilling to accept feedback, etc. We all suggested on the employee survey that they buy us out (with insurance) but good luck with that.

That was definitely the case in this last layoff for sure....if you're of a certain age, have worked hard and were making a decent salary after years of employment at Centene, you were shaken loose. I just find this ironic as the person running the company is way older than most of us were and is the highest paid CEO in Missouri. I guess age only counts when you aren't MFN.
