I’ve talked to more than a few people who were let go in this last round and all of them seem to be a lot more stress free and happier. Even the ones that haven’t yet found employment (though those are fewer ever week). Does anyone know anybody who ISN’T at least a bit happier having been let go, even if they’re concerned with finding a new job?

I left in 2016. Best thing I ever did. Everyone who knows me tells me I look younger than I ever did while working there. I even have my own company now and work more than I ever did over there. It's not the hours or even the job, it is the horrible morale....I once posted on this board when I was early on from leaving and I spelled "morale".."moral". And about 10 people commented on that. That is why that company sucks. Too many people worried about silly stuff that doesn't add any value to anything and ends up being "make work" for no reason. I'm guessing the people commenting on that back then did a PowerPoint on the differences between "morale" and "moral".
I left. Joined a well established name. Trust me, it became worse. Whole industry is like that I think. Look at the boards of other oil companies. Don’t leave to join another O&G, it’s jumping from frying pan to fire.
Long term employee here; if I posted my name you’d recognize it. I never thought my career would end like it did. The company I started with is not the culture/values of the current company.
That said, life after ConocoPhillips is great. I no longer have to put up with the brown-nosing, hypocrisy, incompetence, and “favorites”. I could list the BU’s/Assets/“leaders” but we all know them.
I’ll admit it still hurts that after the split this company could have been great. For a root cause I’d point to irrational arrogance. There were folks making suggestions that were not listened to.
A few are confused, angry and upset, but that’s to be expected. Since no real reason for termination was provided, it’s hard to come to grips. But they’re hopeful for a better future. So I guess that’s a plus?
Those I spoke to are unhappy that an easy job was lost that paid well. They are looking for a new job. But realize that COP did not seem so bad compared to unemployment
No. Why would they be? No one actually wants to work at this place. The pay isn’t even close to competitive for anyone with a pulse and marketable skills.
