120 billion ARM CPUs sold for Edge computing. True, but how Dell will capitalize on this trend? I fail to see. Dell does not have neither good CPU designers nor microcode engineers. How many CPUs Dell has designed and manufactured? How many OS systems or kernel modules DELL has created?
The Edge, the Cloud , VM's is all bull. It all run's on physical devices in some Data Center somewhere.
Instead of running 1,000's of OS images with 1,000's of system admin's, go back to mainframe with a few system admin's and a few systems to patch.
Why is this in a layoff rumor site? This is way off topic.
Have a look at NGD systems, putting an Arm chip onto a SSD, running a Linux kernel on it and running data analytics at the edge, thus reducing the pipe required and the size of the server farm in the DC or cloud. Why wouldn't you?
