Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Managers are scared

I was laid off and separated at the end of March. Just to be professional and not burn bridges, I set up brief meetings with my direct supervisor/manager and other managers in the department. Surprisingly, they openly talked about things that would be considered blasphemous previously- the bleak company future, their fear of what is to come and XOM not being the place that offers stability.
Something else caught my attention. Many managers asked for my resume multiple times so they could help me.
I am cynical. They are themselves brushing up their resumes and were probably looking to see what they could steal from my resume (typical XOM culture).
A word of caution. Everyone at XOM is looking to leave. If you have the slightest doubt that they might steal from your resume, don’t share it. Remember they are your competition in the external job market. A resume is not needed for them to put you in touch with people in their network. They know enough about you to make the introduction.

Op, your resume is safe. No one wants to be you. No one.

I agree with the OP on this one. XOM managers are notorious for taking credit for work done by their teams. I’m sure that trait continues when they pursue opportunities outside XOM.
People don’t necessarily need your resume to help you connect with opportunities in their network.

LOL steal from your resume??? I'm sure you're the type that writes "demonstrated self starter" and other useless jargon.

Good thing they canned you. Cant believe you actually think your resume has secret tips. Pretty sure you dont have a job yet and wont for a while. Former employees like you is the reason XOM is where it is today. So glad they will continue to get rid of people like you this year.

Sound a bit paranoid to me. And I’m not surprised that your supervisors or managers were willing to meet up with you before leaving. Most of my past supervisors would do the same, assuming I wasn’t leaving because I was terminated for something I did wrong.

Honestly I have no problem sharing resume tips or even the document itself to anyone I have a good relationship with, including managers. If I had a great boss who left and found something else, I’d see if there was a way to join them.
