I might just be paranoid here but please humor me. My manager has been acting strange around me lately, like he's walking on eggshells. This has never happened before (I've had the same manager for the past three years) and it has me freaked out. Could it be that he knows something I don't? Does he know I'm going to be laid off but can't tell me?

My manager knew 6 months ahead of time
The March layoff were in the works since at least October of last year. The other direct on here is right, BUT if you are best gal-pals with the VPs making the decisions - those directors knew much more than they lead on to know. Certainly enough that the VPs did some questionable things to save a few directors. And there is nothing anyone can do about it... but leave.
Don't ask him, he'll lie! They are trained to. It's a no brainer now, but I didn't see it then. On my last coaching my supervisor asked for all the pointers I could give from my knowledge in other areas and previous departments I had worked at, took notes about it and all. Only to dismiss me without warning a free days later, no goodbyes, no consideration and no idea of all the pain they caused, in the middle of a pandemic and while I was facing one of the most challenging times in my life. Just be careful and try not to stand out♡
CEO originally stated no layoffs with WellCare purchase. Well, we know how well that has worked. Instead of 3k positions to fill, they were all cancelled, along with multiple layoffs. New headquarters in NC, so Tampa will be history by end of year. They 'may' offer positions in NC to FL employees, but don't expect moving expenses, etc., along with possible pay cuts as I'm sure everyone will be told cost of living is SO much lower in NC.
Next round is June or July. Lists are already submitted.
The brain drain continues and I can only assume the company is being set to up be sold or digested in parts. The emphasis on cost savings over integration seems to support that opinion.
We knew months in advance. They’d tell you a number you have to “choose” from your department and even when you assess the situation and come back saying you can’t function with that little number of people left they don’t listen. Two people at very top making all decisions about everything no matter what it’s made to appear. Obviously you’re right to be concerned. Plan ahead and look out for yourself at all times no matter what you’re told.
I'm a Director and learned 2 days before I had to setup RIF meetings. This was for the last rounds a few months ago.. All decisions were made at VP level. My input was never asked.
If they are not part of the lay off round, they know. A couple years ago I joked about being laid off because the system had locked me out. My manager did not immediately laugh, had a very serious look, then finally said call IT.
A few weeks later our department had layoffs, not me thankfully.
I bet my manager was trying to remember the names on that list and the date of the layoff and that was the pause and serious look on their face.
I no longer joke like that!
They already have lists. They know now.
Ask him does he see any lay offs in your department.
Trust your gut. It's almost always right.
