Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Is HCL taking over Desktop Support?

I noticed that HCL is advertising for "Deskside Support Technicians" in at least one of the Ascension markets. I know there are rumours floating around about HCL taking over desktop support but I do not remember anything official being announced...

The cultural sensitivity training was a steaming pile of bovine scatology.

@ghos+1aMaZ5PR - Conform or be cast out. Most people are probably not being insensitive, they just have a patient to care for and have a computer, application, networked medical device, etc. that is not working and the language barrier slows patient care down but hey, Gerry and his minions will be getting nice bonuses this year!

When someone calls the help desk there is a prompt to dial 9 if you are a physician. That 9 will not take you to India.

There have been massive problems related to language, some of the Indians do not have adequate English language skills. Lot's of reports of callers getting frustrated and hanging up. The issue also got a lot of complaints coming from within Ascension Technologies. The response was to force all Ascension Tech folks to attend a "Cultural Sensitivity Training" session conducted by HCL, essentially telling Ascension Tech folks that they are the problem.

I believe that Field Services moving under the HCL umbrella will be more of a rebadging of most of the current employees instead of them hiring new employees. One thing about Field Services is most of it cannot be done remotely from India or even from across town. There has to be employees onsite to work with the desktops, laptops, printers, crash carts, etc...

Just heard they are bringing in HCL Contractors for Field Services... And so it begins for the FS folks. I am sure Megan will pass it off saying see we are getting FS the help the need.. But in reality the HCL folks will be trying to learn as much as possible so they have techs at the ready when they pull the plug on FS. Pretty sh---y way to run a "Christian" Catholic Hospital.
I also think they will not have many FS techs in house, but instead only have 1 or 2 for the hands on stuff and the rest will be supported from India.

@4rfo+1aMaZ5PR - I doubt it, they're probably going to try to hire from the existing staff at a lower wage and benefits like when it was outsourced to Dell and NTT. I can tell you one cr---y deal with HCL is that they only offer two weeks of PTO per year regardless of how long you've worked for them. Hard pass!

My thought is they will bring in contractors from HCL before they announce that they are outsourcing FS. This way they will already have some techs on site and somewhat know the operations. This way they don't need to hire as many AT FS folks and bring in low cost new techs.

@1era, I hope you don't mind if I copy this post into a new thread for greater visibility. I was wondering about this too.

Anyone else find it interesting that news articles say layoffs between August 8th and December 10th? It was in an official WARN letter sent in Michigan. They never mentioned December in any of the meetings. So yes, there is another round of layoffs coming soon. Probably a few days after Labor Day which would be 3 months just like the last announcement. Does this include field services and data center staff?

I cannot disclose everything in the works but yes. No official notice. They do have to give the state where HQ is located a 60 day notice…. do what you will with that information
