Connecting OT in district 3

Anyone that can explain the rules on connecting OT in district 3? The contract seems to leave room for interpretation. Bottom line for me : I don’t mind the OT most times. I like the money. However there are times you just don’t want to work past 5pm, you want quality of life too (god forbid) and the company lately is telling us techs that we HAVE no choice but to work these Bank of America orders that are scheduled to have a tech onsite by 3pm and can last several hours into the night. I’m all for being a team player but I keep getting assigned these jobs. I have the most OT in the crew but I’m told OT equalization doesn’t apply because it’s connecting OT. They aren’t asking for volunteers. They’re just dumping them into my queue. After having back to back BOAs with a lot of cable pulling , I’m experiencing back pain without enough time to heal and recover. Company doesn’t care of course. You can’t say “you can’t do the job because of pain”. They’ will force you to take sick time.

Yeah, tell em to F off and go home! What mo--n gave that advice? Why don't you attend a Local meeting and consult with your Local president. You have grounds for a grievance. Make sure you sign a membership card.

Good grief. Bank Of America work has taken me across the country. As a Systems Tech. I have worked in Hollywood, on the sunset strip and in south dakota seeing mount rushmore. and all points in between. Malibu California. Catalina Island. Washington DC. What a great job this used to be.

No issues with BoA or any OT in the west...seems to be fine...for now! Once Atlas becomes the permanent platform, things might change for the better!

You work for a utility, and our job is to provide service to our customers. If you can’t meet the needs of the business, go find a new job. In other words…either suck it up buttercup, or hit the road jack. Some of us have been doing this for 30-40 years.

Make sure you are charging penalty pay if they aren’t giving you 12 hours between shifts.

Yeah, this is not the place for it unfortunately. You are obviously a Digital or Systems tech in Business Field Services in the Southeast.

  1. Seems like a localized issue to me based off the one sided view of how it’s been posted here.
  2. If you have an urgent personal medical issue, you need to inform your manager and seek professional medical assistance immediately.
  3. If you’re just sore from working hard then suck it up.
  4. If you’re just mad about the muddled contract language being utilized to the companies benefit, which unfortunately appears to be causing you to work an abundance of OT that you don’t want, you should reach out to your manager first to see if an alternate solution can be reached.
  5. If you have already done this and need further assistance, you should contact your local CWA president about the issue and let them know which section/article of the contract you believe is being violated so they can investigate and try to help.

TBH, and assuming some delay exists between when these orders fall into the load and when they actually need to be worked, I would just poll for connecting OT volunteers (systems techs first and then digital techs last) for 24 hours for each occurrence and if I didn’t get any, I’d send the orders to vendor management and move on bus as usual. All of the BOA orders are ESS sourced so the field manager only has to inform the DOC of VM approval and away they go. Assuming these specific orders can be vendored out that is. I’m sure we could possibly have it part of the agreement with BOA that only T techs do the work. 2nd shift could work as well, but is a logistical nightmare for the field manager unless a permanent and consistent volunteer exists. If it can’t be vendored out and no volunteers, I’d schedule 2nd shift in order of inverse seniority to cover the work. If 48hr notice can be provided to techs for schedule change, then great! If not, they’ll charge penalty pay. Life goes on. Typical day in BFS!

From what I understand it’s BOFA that wants the WI-FI installs performed after hours The techs have to get there at 3:00 for the access

In OOR, there is an afternoon shift for that kind of work, 2-10:30 shift takes those orders, problem solved!

Yep, they are skirting the rules by scheduling those jobs to have a tech on-site at 3pm. Union won’t /can’t do anything about it.
