Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Was hard work worth it for anyone here?

The situation is identical when I worked very hard and now that I work only the bare minimum.
Now I wonder why I worked hard at all and tried to give my best? Seagate didn't value it at all.
Now that I’m less engaged at least I'm feeling less stress. This is the company you leave as soon as you gain some experience.

Definitely not. hard work and diligent doesn't work in this company. Apple polish, fly aeroplane are reward even no revenue gained. they still get rewarded.

Those grade level changes have led to three in our dept decide it was a good to leave the company. Another d-mb decision from the top that backfired, especially now that the economy is picking up steam and companies are struggling to find good engineers and managers.

Grade levels are already gone since rolling out SAP. They are now called Levels. M1, P1

As further reward get ready to have your "grade level" erased and changed so that you're salary has a tighter cap on it. Coming soon.

Not worth any hard work and commitment. There would be no compensation for future rif. STX no longer the employer with employee benefits. They seek no loyalty from you, neither have a heart for your well being regardless how many years of service you rendered.

Have you been working in silo? It seem like you just step out of the room.

It did on and off. Every few years they re-norm the performance ratings so everyone gets a 3 pretty much.

One of those years I did all my goals after 3 quarters and accomplished my "stretch goal." In theory I should have gotten a 5. I got a 3. It's a random number generator.

In Seagate work hard may not get you anywhere, work smart does...
It's who you know..not what you know..
So relax, enjoy Seagate vacation right till graduation day!

We all choose to be happy or not. It’s our choice and a reflection of ourselves not of those around us.

Well. It depends. If you are able to, you should invest in some certifications or classes and plow your work ethic into that if things are light duty for you now. Sometimes you have management that recognizes hard work and sometimes they don't really care. Best to invest in yourself and move on to where you want to work hard and enjoy it if you can mate.

As an engineer, I am 95% driven by my own fulfillment over my projects and results and have never wavered from that for 30+ years. I've been mostly satisfied by the recognition and benefits. So yeah, I can say over four decades, it's been worth it.
