IBM's transistor/area # analysis showed it is close to 2.9nm (i.e., slightly denser than TSMC 3nm) -

The key is NOT the technology to make some device working in lab or in the pilot fab line but is the good yield in high volume for $ profit. Intel did have its 10nm in test chip and in lab "many" years ago and still suffers the non-comparable yield vs. TSMC 7nm. It is a fab ... not a IP nor a prototype paper.

To make great yield today, it takes far more than great theorists, top-brain engineers, power point slide talkers (Intel has too many and probably more than IBM :-) ), ... with tons of hard 24/7 works - could be challenging of US/Indian culture in any short years, even with US gov. $ and non-technical pressure to force it. I guess most smart young kids in top colleges are not excited in choosing this fab career either.

And, for device guys, the GAA/nano* in forksheet or CFET, regardless the marketing names of 2nm or 1nm, that is the end (1 shot generation) before the fundamental change comes.

Don't ever believen IBM they only have patent no real product

Pretty meaningless. This is a one-off lab trinket. And Intel bringing out 2nm ( or 5nm or 7nm ) anytime soon - lol..

Hey Intel - how's that TSMC collab going ??! You don't have a clue -- do you ??

Intel and IBM yesteryear and yesterday great American companies are making a comeback with new CEO, got their mojo back.

We now know why Pat is jetting around the world and asking for capital, they are going to leapfrog everyone and have 2nm far earlier, awesome American wins always

But can you pick which restroom to use at IBM? Or will they hire your wife to boost numbers?

The research collaboration between Intel and IBM was signed just this past March:

Just how much tech is IBM going to "share" with Intel is anyone's guess
