Do you think this is an absolutely impossible option or is there still some small chance that they could give us the opportunity to volunteer? I personally don't believe it because it wouldn't work in their favor, a huge number of people would probably leave, but I wonder if there are those who think that there is a probability?

Speaking as someone that raised their hand in 2020, you can totally volunteer. I had a very direct conversation with my supervisor, and straight up asked to be let go. Be respectful and honest, and I bet most managers would help you if they can. Remember it makes their job easier, they don’t have to choose.
