Is there really a need...

for so many layoffs? Couldn’t some jobs have been saved?

Didn't ascension outsource before and bring everything back in (i.e. CSC)?
But outsourcing to India though - ascension will find out in a few years, you get what you pay for. Savings, yes - but quality will tank. Question is, will poor quality affect bottom line. Hopefully it does and ascension learns from this.

If you can do your job with a computer..... it can be outsourced to another country for 1/3 the cost of what you are making.

I sucks but there's nothing you can do.

No, it wasn't necessary but:

Average application analyst/engineer salary in the USA = $110,000 per year including benefits
Average application analyst/engineer salary in India = $40,000 per year including benefits

The savings is very intoxicating! Think of the bonuses Gerry, Rick, and the other E-levels are going to get! One thing they're not thinking about is employee turnover in India is ridiculous! The average employee tenure is 1 1/2 years vs 20 years in the USA. They are going to be training people all the damn time but then that is the thrid party Indian company's problem.
