Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

B&N's hostile work enviroment may have been used for inspriration for The Handmaid's Tale

The abuse and harrassment is so bad it can turn anyone off from working retail ever again and in some cases, ex-employees never returned to work. Maybe this is where they got the idea for stories in The Handmaid's Tale. The women running the stores here certainly fit the story,

I have worked there too and this would be funny if it weren't so true. I've heard most of the very worst are still there.

While i don't fully agree with the comparison in OP post, can attest to the practice of targeting individuals (managers and bookseller alike) for out-processing solely due to whether RM liked them or not.
