I don't understand why people say that it suits them to work here at BN and that for now they are not looking for anything better for themselves because they are waiting for employment. Is there a worse strategy? Unemployment is not that great at all, and it is much easier to find a job when you already have a job. Also, I know people who really liked doing nothing while getting unemployment, but it was really hard for them to start working again.

It’s called lazy. They want to collect money and not work. BN is the perfect practice for it. The company wants to collect money giving employees and customers nothing.
There used to be a sense of Booksellers loving their job and being well read.
Not anymore.
Just a paycheck until they can make more (!if they’re unemployed!). Just a job to sell whatever to whoever... that’s how it is in our store now.
Let's be real. Searching for a job is more mentally taxing work than working an empty Barnes and Noble, and you get paid more at B&N
