As a precursor to the most likely scenario of dissolution and mass layoffs, I have decided to think positive and presume that TPG will somehow revive the 20 year old vibe once known as DirecTV.
The current pre-spinoff chatter from our Management Teams is that any day now, if we just pretend we are still pre-AT&T, the corpse formerly know as DirecTV will come back to life and we will once again rule the linear TV universe.
It's satellite Bro - just like to cool Space-X and Starlink stuff - only with moving pictures - woohoo!
At least that's the PR spin we are being fed. Forget the millions of customers who have dumped us both pre-Covid and up through the most recent quarter - we will rise like the proverbial Phoenix from the Ashes and rule once again.
While I applaud positivist thinking - and for the sake of my mostly early 30-something year old Gen Z crew with their first house and first kids hoping to make a living that lasts - I do have to ask - when in our recent history has society gone backwards in time and technology?
I ask because that seems to be the plan according to Bill Morrow and his echo machine.
If only, if only we were then, if only we can be again - if only....
Grandma used to say "wish in one hand and sp-t in the other - guess which fills up first".
So, curious on your thoughts as to whether our legacy linear delivery method can reclaim it's crown or has time and technology passed us by.
