Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Restructuring...again πŸ˜‚

When Dante got moved to new role, he was a goner. When the new role is β€œdo nothing,” the writing is on the wall.

If I didn’t know any better, RM is suggesting we just live off the land and not expect any innovations. Nice.

Also heard through the grapevines that IT is now more dysfunctional than ever. Absolute clown car πŸ˜‚

Is there any product, solution, or universe where customers would ca riverbed first? I’m struggling to think of one right now.

It's SD-WAN/Versa v2

Even though it's 1st of April don't post stuff like this. Some people might believe it.

SDWAN is done. Just look at the new architects group. Only one guy worldwide for EX? There must be pipeline all over the place.
SaaS acc is a feature at best. Think about it, the last year was the perfect storm for a product like this but look at the numbers.
WAN opt is no longer needed except for some legacy scenarios.
Riverbed will just focus on NPM from now on, no matter what RMB is saying.

I’m fairly certain whatever Riverbed does, it will benefit RMB and his people only since they’re all working on their next job

Riverbed has no chance against all the 1000 CyberSecurity vendors out there. They have several years of experience and they are light years ahead of us. Without any concept and real innovation Riverbed will fail in the first year.

Security is a mistake, I hope we don’t do it. Competing with the incumbents and startups is an automatic loss since whatever we do I’m sure we’ll be behind.

From Day 1 my old boss said DM was a goose egg and was not a forward thinking technical β€œanything”. Just a faker who lived off the success of his old Italian bosses (MPLS). I can’t blame DM as much as those who hired him, the same goes for the old West Sales VP - that CTO crotchety gasbag who probably didn’t work for Google for more than 3-5 months before getting the axe.

Riverbed shifting to security will be a HUGE mistake. Competing with PANW is a lost cause and Having zero credibility in the space doesn’t help either. RMB must really think sales magically happens if you β€œwish hard enough”, clearly the dude never had to work for anything.

Will this save the company? Questionable. We need innovations now and not in 3 years. Our customers are leaving us in droves because we have nothing more to offer. The company has been sleeping on the job for years, ignoring important trends. They are now trying to gain more control over sales with new tools, but that doesn't help sales! RMB says we have the tools and products for double digit growth. In which universe does he and his management team live?? Dear Management Board, the people are not stupid, they know your rhetoric and know more about business and about the state of the company. Do something sensible instead of just talking about unlaid eggs. The management is useless in the eyes of many Riverbed people. Finally make unpopular decisions and get the company to speed, even if it means fragmenting the company. The way things are going now, it won't work for much longer. The decline is palpable, Q1 was far too quiet. Why? Because customers are turning away, because we no longer have anything to offer. The sales people are just shaking their heads, even the good and supposedly successful ones. Many are just waiting for the next layoff and hope for a suitcase of money, but Riverbed wants to avoid that because the cash flow is miserable. The day will come when we run out of gas. Moody's rating is so bad for a reason. There is insufficient cash flow. Also that debt has been converted to a loan is a sign that Thoma Bravo sees the end or is considering a sale. Also the rumors that Riverbed wants to acquire something is the biggest joke on earth. From what money? Thoma Bravo will not spend any cent, why should they? At most, there will be a merger with another Thoma Bravo company. For sure it will have a high share in cybersecurity. Then Riverbed will probably also have a cybersecurity portfolio, which RMB always talks about in riddles. There will be a restructuring according to BUs and then it will become clear which BU brings revenue and also has a future. After that the big layoff will come or unneeded company divisions will be sold or flattened. The child gets a new name and continues to function as a cash cow for Thoma Bravo and at some point the company is sold at a high profit or taken public. And it's all so transparent that I'm just ashamed of the empty phrases I've had to put up with over the last few months.
