Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Why isn't there more focus on tech refreshes?

We all need to realize that the company is bleeding out. The products have reached their end of life cycle. So why are they pushing the renewal theme instead of focusing on tech refreshes?

This is just a snippet from a great post in one of the threads below, which I would like to discuss because I’m really interested in why the focus isn't on the right things anymore. Innovation is zero.

Ahahahha, did you miss the memo about r&d being axed?! We’re just living off the land now until it turns into a desert.

Any no half good engineer would want to work at Riverbed, especially with the lame package they’re offering. If you want talent, you have to REALLY pay for it and upper mgmt won’t.

Innovations mean more talented engineers required and less focus on keeping loyal managers.

All I can assume is: 1/ none of the riverbed products are designed for cloud, 2/ don’t have the engineers to re-design our products anyway, 3/ hardware upgrades would be insanity. Without engineering or a roadmap, the only way riverbed can pay for its bills are the renewals.
