Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Many incompetent agents?

You would be SHOCKED how many agents are incompetent. Its one thing if they don’t know but many won’t listen. For example if the insured fills out the mileage form incorrectly. I’ll say hey they just need to send in a mileage worksheet with two readings to correct and agents will cry can’t I just fix it. I just want to say DO YOUR JOB. I understand customers not understanding insurance but many agents don’t even know what their selling or what the policy covers. No disrespect to the good agents out there that listen when we help or agents that know insurance well

I somewhat agree with the author of this post. I don’t blame agents who aren’t the most competent, instead I blame Allstate, because Allstate prefers to keep them, while real good agents are laid off or forced to leave on their own.

Most agents learn by lying and cheating on apps to put items in the board. Most don’t care if falls off the book next day. As long as comp is paid who cares.

AGENT TRAINING IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST JOKES OF THE LAST DECADE. Emphasis has been on sales, sales, sales, bonus, bonus, bonus.... nothing about what it is they actually sell. Call six agencies in your area and ask them to explain Roof Depreciation Schedule on AV&P policies - you will get six different answers. Then ask them about the Co-Insurance clause on the same policies – you'll get crickets. Ailstate has E&O claims out-the-gig due to no one minding the store - managers do not make a BONUS on loss ratios, nor do agencies. Slap it up on the wall and hope it sticks.

Quick question, why doesn't Allstate just go direct? They seem to have the platform and the capability to do so? Moreover, they have talent and the management to go 100% direct? ESurance seems to be a good platform to go direct? Is it a pricing issue?

I will have to admit - I am a little shocked at some of the questions agents ask on some of the agent chat sites (FB, etc). As a 30+ year agent - it seems like the newbies get NO training regarding insurance principles and laws. Having to learn the ins and outs of running an office is one thing - but when questions are asked that are so basic to property and casualty insurance - it just reinforces the fact that new agents are hired and thrown out there to do the best they can. No wonder the 36 month failure rate is substantial.
