Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

If you get PIP'd start your exit immediately

When I got PIP'd last year the first thing I did was go to the campus on the weekend and clean out my desk. I also took some other company property I wanted along with some PC peripherals. The company never even knew. I also emailed myself any documents I wanted to have. I passed the PIP but they got me in the real layoff. I also worked from home in the final week when I knew they would get me so they would not be able to escort me out of the building. I made sure they had to call me to let me go and I already had everything out I wanted. I prepared myself well in advance of the last day. Plus I spent Exxon company time looking for my next job. I found a better job with better pay, people, and culture. So I ended up getting paid while looking for a job and got double pay when for a couple months once I got one.

OP, if you need a few paperclips and some printer paper to make your life worthwhile, you got bigger problems than bragging about it on this site. You do realize you just confessed to a crime? The paperclips don't amount to much, but corporate information can be valued at whatever EM decides. And EM has legal grounds to obtain your identity from online sites? Sleep well, sleep well. OH WAIT! Nothing EM likes better than making an example of someone. Maybe sleep with one eye open.

The company monitors documents sent out via email or ShareFile. I was on a team a couple of years ago where the team was sternly warned when someone on the team sent a source file to their personal email so that they could "work on the file at home".

Don't think it's wise to take company documents that you wanted. Definety can land you in a lot of legal trouble had the company found out.

Ive heard about a case in Beaumont where the employee tried to bring information from exxon to the new company, was fined for a lot of money, and ended up losing employment at the new company also.

I took a large block of sticky notes - 8 pads - and got caught.
I was terminated but they let me keep the sticky notes.
I use them for tracking my job applications and court dates.

Don't think taking 'other company property' is a smart move.
That's an immediate termination - no PiL no Severance no benefits whatsoever.
And potentially prosecutable.
They would rub their hands with glee for such a cheap separation.

All the rest sounds up and up.

Please! I mean please ask for an ergo keyboard or headset today. You’re likely to get a keyboard that looks like it’s been d–g thru on a concrete sidewalk. As for the headset, you’re likely to find earwax on it. The Company has gotten so darn cheap they are recycling all these items. You might be lucky enough to get one that’s been sprayed with Lysol. This is not a new process. Next it’ll be bring your own supplies and TP.

Sure “sticking it to the man” is a nice story but just for reference we usually let people who are leaving take their ergo keyboards and mice with them if they want to keep them. This includes contractors and interns. Nobody wants to reuse your gross keyboard.
