This excerpt from another legal website contradicts the previous one (AEI=Assistance Eligible Individuals):

There are two ways an AEI may qualify for the six-month subsidy window:

(1) The AEI is entitled to COBRA at any time after April 1, 2021, and before September 30, 2021, and (a) they timely elected COBRA continuation coverage, and (b) they have been paying COBRA premiums per the plan’s terms.

(2) The AEI was entitled to COBRA but (a) they failed to elect COBRA continuation coverage, or (b) they timely elected but dropped the coverage prior to April 1, 2021 (Group (2) AEIs).

So, we would be eligible according to this information.

Thank you for the link. The first sentence in these excerpts causes me concern, as I believe they’re stating our coverage must have lapsed in order to be eligible for the 4 month April to September subsidy coverage. Please feel free to correct me if I’m mistaken.

Importantly, the subsidy is available to employees who did not elect COBRA coverage during their original election period, as well as those who initially elected COBRA but let their coverage lapse.

Plan administrators are required to begin notifying eligible individuals of the COBRA subsidy within 60 days of April 1, 2021...So, CYC is obligated to notify us of CARES Act assistance.

In addition, my first payment will already be due on 4/1 (termed 3/12). Being managed by Connect Your Care, the same company who managed our FSA accounts. But COBRA can’t be managed on their app, has to be on their COBRA-specific website: cobra.connectyourcare .com.

I think previous commenter meant severance, not stimulus. So, evidently we all get different subsidy terms - mine is only 3 months. Individual BC/BS plan totals almost $1000 with premium medical, dental & vision - my payment is $225 after they pay subsidy. No, I will not be able to afford it once subsidy ends; I mean, who could?

I saw something about this newest stimulus paying for COBRA for 4/1 to September. It was not clear how it works, but I'm sure it said not to apply for it until 4/1.

I did. I signed stating I was opting into COBRA but sent no money since the stimulus package includes COBRA payments .
