Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

If you are technical is it worth sticking around?

Reluctant yo leave, but looking for advice on whether the urgency to leave is necessary.

Always good to check your value outside. Technical skills are marketable. Long term satisfying technical career with XOM will most likely not be rewarding and for some not worth the fear of the yearly PA process which is not designed to reward technical skills and diversity.
Based on your value outside (value is not just salary and benefits, it is also career potential and technical culture), you can then decide to leave or make peace with your current situation.

You should definitely be applying elsewhere. Management has been clear 8% PIP is the new norm until they reach their goal of moving North America jobs offshore. Workforce reductions will continue. Hard to grow your career in a shrinking organization.

Leave as far away from XOM as you can. Didn't you see mgmt. firing great hardworking, competent technical people during recent layoff and last year's layoff disguised in PIP program? They laid of these qualified people only to make room for themselves to stay on board to continue milking the XOM cow until dry. XOM is known to fire worker bees to protect mgmt. So better save your self now then get kicked out later.

IT staff is being heavily cut everywhere since it's all overhead and revenue is still suffering in many industries because of COVID. Depends on the demand of your skillset and your network, as always.

Polish resume, try to get few offers, then you can think to leave or not. There are many opportunities to work remotely, getting California/NY paycheck in Texas is great (even after adjustment).
