Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Risk layoffs coming

Those of us in the know have very intimate knowledge of the new CRO and Banking President. They're executioners, here to play the villains and layoff huge swathes of the entire banking unit.

We know that USAA likes to hire contractors as needed, but ultimately the contractors are cheaper than actual USAA employees, and when it comes to looking out for their bottom line, USAA will go with the cheaper option. This also isn't the first, second, or third time USAA has done this exact thing. It seems to be part of their overall strategy; hire cheap and layoff. Employees are viewed as and treated like we are expendable, replaceable, and are certainly unappreciated and overworked. To USAA, it's employees are like batteries, use us up, throw us out, replace us with cheaper alternatives.

Contracting rates were reduced in the last two years, as they use to pay generously but then people were leaving as FTEs to become contractors as it was very lucrative. Now the rates for contractors are low.
Some contractors get very easy roles and others work their butts off. It really depends how competent your manager is and the business unit. Offshore contracts for IT (TCS, HCL--most are poor quality, which makes outsourcing very costly.

I am wondering not if there’s going to be layoffs but if the bank is going to be acquired by another institution such as Bank of America. I keep hearing rumors of that but no confirmation as of yet

I can agree more with the statement made above. USAA culture is dramatically deteriorated over the last 20 years. It is a part of the overall USAA strategy to hire chip and layoff qualified, knowledgeable and hard working people. The honesty, integrity, loyalty and service are just slogans with no meaning behind them. USAA has the highest level of nepotism in the entire corporate America. The hiring strategy is designed to bring on board relatives, siblings, close friends whoever, but not the individuals who can get the actual job done. The employees who actually happen to be qualified, and who ‘provided service to the company’ for over 20-30 year are getting let go. The actual job is get done by contractors, who are continuing to ‘milking’ the company. What a shame!
