Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Notice for resignation, vacation payout

Does ExxonMobil not have an employee manual where they say how much time they want for resignation? I can’t find anything and most companies spell it out.

And did anybody who resigned have any trouble getting their vacation paid out? Is it regular and carryover?

Thanks a lot!

Y’all I love your answers! This company deserves nothing from us when resigning. Other companies have it written down for two weeks or even more. This would be a way for Exxon to not cash out vacation if people don’t comply but it’s a company of mismanaged id–ts so I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m so happy to put in my notice next week but so angry at the same time. Nobody should have to deal with the sh–ty people and the sh–ty culture. This culture turns good people into b–tards I feel. Anyway, thanks for your help and good luck to all.

You’re giving too much credit. All HR related items are poorly documented so they can change them at any time.

Dude. There is no requirement for notification. Just like they can walk you out the door at any minute you can leave whenever you want.

Employment at will cuts both ways.
I quit and handed over the laptop, badge, Amex and left the same day.
Since there isn’t even HR interview none cares.
Payroll has to cash you out.
Takes some time but it gets paid.

Just sent the admin an email with the vacation cc to management. Assuming they haven’t quit too.

I gave two weeks. The admin sent a note to the supervisor asking for approval for unused vacation payout, and the supervisor approved. I forwarded the mail to payroll. If you call payroll they will tell you what email to forward to. Got the pay about a month later. I quit partly because my supervisor was bad. If I’d told her that directly she may not have approved it or dragged it out, something to keep in mind.

Your supervisor should send you a form to fill out

I gave 1 week's notice. There is no hard or fast rule for how much notice you want to give - some friends gave notice and left that very same day, some people did the whole 2 weeks' classical notice, etc. I think it's better to not drag out the process, so one week was perfect for me.

Thanks for your answer! How much notice did you give?

Hi there - I had some problems getting my vacation hours paid out (I waited for 6 weeks, heard nothing, and had to email my former supervisor and call HR). It took about a week's worth of emailing and calling to finally see the direct deposit come silently into my bank account. ExxonMobil doesn't have good manuals or websites for instructions directing what to do if employees decide to leave. I have worked at other companies that had it all set up nicely on a website so there was no confusion. I think it is because ExxonMobil has been so accustomed to "hiring for life" that they never put in the time and effort to invest in a website that gave directions for what to do if an employee decides to leave.
