I have been doing someone else’s job for months and I'm sick of it. After my colleague left, I had to take over his job. I simply can’t take it anymore.
Is there anyone who was in a similar situation and complained about the amount of work to their management? I can’t even consider doing that because I know what would happen next, but lately I’ve been thinking about it more and more because I have nothing to lose.
I’ll definitely have to quit if Xerox doesn’t make a replacement of colleague who’s left because this has gone too far.

Welcome to the club. I had 2 colleagues leave the company and I picked up their workload. I see it as some sort of job security for now. It also get's me some overtime which is not that common anymore in Xerox. The philosophy in the company is do more with less, and it's going to continue. Covid-19 had made companies realize they don't need the resources thy had before the virus. More people will be working from home and business will be conducted online. Gone are the days where paper reports will be handed out in meetings. It will all be electronic. I'm certain glory days of Xerox's core business, printing, will soon be a memory.
I've noticed that if you show the company that you're loyal to the work, they just give you more duties for the same min. wage while demanding more from you even if there are limitations.
Update your resume asap and start looking. It will not get better. Everyone is doing the job of 3 or 4 people. Even admins are overworked. I spoke up and I was told we could not get extra help, to not work overtime but get everything done in 8 hours. I wound up getting very sick from the stress. Finally I got laid off. I know there has to be better companies that will treat their employees better out there. But Xerox is not one of those companies anymore.
What do you want, a cookie?
I'm in Xerox direct, and for the past 8 to 10 years anytime someone leaves their responsibilities are split out among the remaining team members, without being backfield. Things that we used to do on a regular basis haven't been done in years due to lack of time and available resources. All we have time for now are the major fire drills. "Running the business" types of activities went away back in 2018 when John V started swinging the hatchet.
I've been doing three jobs for several years now. You will not get a replacement. You need to change you mindset. You can only do what you can do in 8 hours. Take your breaks and lunch and leave/sign off after 8 hours.
Yes you are lucky if you just started doing this. I have been absorbing jobs for 10 years. As soon as someone leaves or takes a new position you get their work as well since there has been a hiring freeze for ever. I have absorbed 3 other people's jobs so far. Now I also have to do all HCLs work.
Seriously count your lucky stars if you haven’t been doing that all along. Xerox’s MO for decades. There’s a door. Use it if it’s that bad because complaining to management at best will get you sympathy, a Pat on the head, a drink of water and told to go back to your desk. At worst you’ll end up with a target on your back.
It won’t get better. If you show you can even slightly handle it they will just give you more and more. You might be lucky and they replace the coworker , or maybe they will listen to you and get you help. That’s a big maybe, in my experience you ask them to help, they ask you to list out your work. And then there is a conversation about priorities in which they end up adding more to your plate and/or are unable to prioritize.. its like nailing jello if you can get them to do it.. but then they change agreed priorities every day.. get out when you can.
If your branch has been slowly losing staff due to layoffs, turnover and coworkers quitting due to abuse and intimidation to do more work for the same pay, then it's time to get your resume updated and find another job.
It got so bad at Xerox in Toronto, Canada that female staff ran away from the building after an overworked temp employee supervisor spazzed out and triggered the female staff. Unfortunately, contract workers and racialized women don't have rights in Canada.
Quit your crying.Once worked for a Xerox manager who said there were 8 days in a week on his calendar..
Doing the job of 2-4 persons for the same wage of 1 person is common at Xerox. What makes it more infuriating is that Management will pressure you to meet the unrealistic targets as if the department was staffed with the missing coworkers.
Explaining that the machine can only print so much every minute, or that you're doing the job of the entire department doesn't help either. The temp agency hires Managers from less democratic countries to strong arm the bottom line of temp workers. Get out if you can get a next job easy.
