Why would BEV customers give Ford a chance?

When people misrepresent program health, rush programs through OKTB, not let people focus on the important deliverables, but focus on worthless grandstanding powerpoints, the slide will continue. The difference between Ford and Toyota is very simple: We don’t build cars we build careers. We don’t serve our customers like we should. The more we charge for these vehicles, the more sophisticated and intelligent our customers become. And simply put, their tolerance for b — s— is non-existent especially when you are charging BMW prices. The BEV push should be interesting; the Tesla customer base is predominantly professionals (doctors, lawyers, financial, etc.). What will be their draw to give Ford a chance? Just not seeing it at the moment.

That’s it - as someone said, customer interests have fallen into the background and the consequences are being felt. Ford seems to forget the importance of customer loyalty. I’m afraid that buyers of battery electric vehicles will not give Ford a chance.

Tesla produced 500,000 vehicles in 2020. If there is not a lot differentiating the Mach E from the Tesla models in terms of price performance, features, or quality I don't think there will be tremendous demand for those 50k vehicles.

Reservations for Mach E were capped at 50,000 and are fully refundable.

I love the doom and gloom predictions but orders for the Mach E are backlogged. Post your comment again at the end of the year and lets see how the BEV's start selling not only in the US but worldwide.

We sold a lot of Explorers but we blew it with poor quality. 5R55 was a weak transmission that never was durable. Ford was a vehicle that you leased but was not a vehicle that you wanted long term.

Just face the facts, there are two groups of customers we make money off of:

  1. Fleet Buyers that buy F-series and Vans
  2. Retail buyers that buy Fseries, Expedition, and to a lesser extent Explorer (20MY launch hit that nameplate hard)

None of these customers are interested in a BEV at the moment. The vehicle they are buying reflects this. Force BEV onto them, they will just go elsewhere. So how will Ford convert a Tesla customer? They wont! The recognition, the cool factor are just something that a Tesla customer will not walk away from. So where does that leave the Mach E? In about a year they will heap incentive just to move them similar to the Chevy Bolt. And that will leave the company with another negative business case, but Team Edison will keep kicking. We need to pull our head out of our a– and get real. An F150 BEV is not the answer either.

I've got a better question? Why would anybody buy a BEV?

Answer: because they are virtue signaling rich kids who want lots of toxic chemicals mined and put in a big plastic box so they can feel like they are saving the planet.
