Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Change of heart

I used to love this company. Was as loyal as they come. When it came to the job, I bent over backwards to make my bosses look good. But the last round of layoffs totally affected me mentally and emotionally. Now when I wake up in the mornings, I get that sick feeling in my stomach - and I hate it. I’m definitely looking to get out. I’d rather leave on my own terms.

Loyalty has its limits–to paraphrase 'Dodsworth', it has to stop short of career s–c-de. From this point forward, think of yourself as You, Inc. You trade your time and abilities for a paycheck and benefits. They don't owe you more than that, you don't owe them more than that. At the same time, you conduct yourself with the highest ethical standards on the job. You don't backstab. You see wrongdoing, you have a responsibility to report it.

You can like your co-workers and be personally loyal to them. Lend a helping hand to them. Be there for them. But also watch your back.

Every day on the job is one day closer to the day you'll be leaving, voluntarily or involuntarily. Try to make it more of the former than the latter.

Ultimately we are all Paladins–'have gun (our abilities) will travel

This is a difficult but pure truth.

Don’t be loyal to a company. Do your job well, but never drink the kool-aid. No amount of feel good rhetoric and nonsense about corporate ~values~ and ~pillars~ changes the fact that what matters is the stock price and the bottom line. Use these companies the way they use workers. Your relationship with work should be a quid pro quo, but never be loyal to corporate America. Corporate America will NEVER be loyal to you
