The job market is pretty tough right now. These companies are really lowballing compensation. It’s almost like they see laid off as your reasoning, and know you’re desperate.

Tough is understatement. Too many applicants. Few jobs. I applied over 100 positions and no response.
With so many work at home it is easier just to dump more work on a person still they are stuck at home anyway.
Even after everyone gets vaccinated, remote working is going to take hold so you spend all day. All night. Weekends working since there is no limit.
Going to apply for government job. Pay will be less but at least I have a job with benefits.
