Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Diversity

Someone mentioned something about diversity in one of the posts (Does the Business Excellence dept make STX better?). It's a joke. You realize there is a huge lack of diversity at that company. There are less that 4% Latino and 4% black employees and less than 1% of a few other native groups per their site. When they rif'd the tax dpt they got rid of one of the only black mgrs in finance that I know of. Are there any latino and black employees in finance? In management or other positions? There were a couple of latino employees in the tax dept before they were rif'd (sorry if my reference to different racial groups is not correct) There used to be a black women in revenue but I think she quit a few years ago. There was another black women in accounting. I'm not sure if she is still at Seagate. After being called a monkey by another employee, yelled at and having an employee invade her privacy I'm hoping she left. Seagate has a long way to go to become a diverse workplace. Glad I got out when I did.

@2vnl+19yO0CMH no one in this post is saying that they are unable to get a job because of their ethnicity. Everyone has biases whether they admit it or not. Someone may not know that how they perceive things are considered bias. Hence the unconscious bias training.

How can you hire diverse employees if there is a hiring freeze? Looks like a vanilla soft serve cone in MN. White from top down with some sprinkles of color thrown in to please the kids.

Didn't Seagate give training for unconscious bias? From the numbers guess it didn't make a difference.

White? More like Chinese and Asian Indian. Plenty of diversity, just not the type that the original poster cares about.

I have never had a problem working with whoever it is. Color or background not an issue for me.
This just a bunch of political BS. If you want a job, apply yourself and go get it.
I have meant plenty of very successful Diverse people in my career. None of them wine about I could not get a job because of my ethnicity. It is sad to see people use that as an excuse.
If a manager is truly doing this. They need to be dealt with.

You realize diversity is a joke. Hire the best engineers and if they’re all white males, so what?

This question should be asked in the opposite direction. Why would a quality minority candidate want to work for Seagate since there are better places to go?

What's the pool? Does it represent a larger or lesser extent of representation of each ethnic or racial group that's available?

I have zero idea what those numbers should be. When I was at Normandale, yeah, women and non-white/non-Asian employees were not especially prevalent. But the question is: Compared to what?

Most engineering managers would be thrilled to have a minority candidate apply for a job.
