HR-Dial that Enthusiasm Back

Like many of you, I got the HR call yesterday. Was it unexpected not really and I see it as an opportunity to move on to bigger and better. However, the one thing I did not expect was how enthusiastic the HR person was. She made it sound like I was the next winner on the Price is Right. Yes I did get a package .... was it the best NO but it is better than some. Are there services I can take advantage of YES but are they exceptional
NO... just the standard services every large company offers.

Just didn’t the over exuberant HR person explaining to me all the details when I had just been told I am without a job, medical insurance for my family and 401k. Compassion and professionalism would be much for appropriate. Sensitivity Training is suggested.

BUT hey .... GO TEAM COP!!!

They'll never tell you the real reason(s) you were selected for layoff. That information could expose the company to lawsuits.

But here's a brief list of possible reasons:
1) too expensive
2) too experienced
3) too opinionated
4) redundant skill set
5) nonessential skill set
6) asset sales

Of course, if you are well connected, then none of these possible reasons impact you.

What I don't get is that the "Management Staff" that actual chose the people they were laying off had very little to say except reading a prewritten statement. They didn't have to give you any specific reason(s) why you were chosen. They jumped off and left you with, as stated, the over-enthusiastic HR person. I do agree - time to reinvent and move on to bigger & better things. If they didn't appreciate my work and dedication to the company, possibly someone else will.

When I got laid off Head of HR called and asked me how they did. Wanted feed back. Since I was old she thought I like being let go and taken to my car.

Call it what you may, but at the end of the day, you still go home without a job.

I am sorry you were laid off! I really hope great opportunities come in the near future! Best of luck.
And yes! The HR people should understand we are human and we need to be treated with empathy.
