Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Staying on after being laid off

They laid me off but want me to work 3 weeks. They say take the rest of day off, they hold staff meeting that day to tell everyone who got the axe. Come back to work next day, no communication, no direction from boss, everyone scared and uncomfortable to say anything to me. The few that do say something to me are shocked, why you they ask? You are the only one that helps....but to leadership, I know where they hide the skeletons....I know how deceitful they are. So am I surprised. No. Is my staff, yeah. And scared now. Why do they keep me still. Just to ignore me and start the smear campaign? It's really terrible how I am being treated, yet they know they can do this if I need the severance. And I have to remain professional at all times, what a double standard. In my case. I wish they'd set me free now. This is emotional abuse.

I had a close to six month runway from notification of elimination to my last day. (Part of the WellCare elimination) I was told to keep the information restricted but I started to tell some people on my team with whom I had confidence. I assumed that the senior management on the team I was embedded in knew. Guess what, they didn't!

COVID hit and we all worked 50-55 hour weeks in my unit.

By the time I got down to my last month, the scramble started to figure out where my work went. It was kind of funny to see The State of Denial. Had to keep reminding the senior management that I was departing. I had already created an inventory spreadsheet from hell and turned it over to the selected point person who was responsible for other things. Worked up to my last day, wrote a note to my team at end of day, and turned it off at 5pm. Other than well wishes and a few nice note, haven't heard much from them since, so it was a clean turnover.

Happens more often than you think. Take PTO to work on new opportunities. They probably liked you enough to keep you on so you can still get paid but I doubt they expect you to keep coming to the office.

It happened to my manager too. We knew it was for performance reasons that he was laid off but he was a really nice guy. He took time off after the announcement to terminate him. Yes - it was awkward for everyone but we treated him with a lot of respect up until his last day.

It is no reflection on you but on upper management. Upper management really screwed up.

I am so sorry to hear this. I was laid off, and told to sign off immediately. I’m kinda glad it was done that way. I can’t imagine having to continue working, when I already know it’s ending against my will. Just let me go. Hoping times flies for you and you find something else better soon.
