After years at EM I am finally able to leave for a government position. I didn’t get my hopes up. I didn’t think it was actually possible. I just figured why not give it a shot. Who would have thought someone in their 40s would get the opportunity. I won’t have to deal with all the politics and toxic c-ap that has become second nature here. Let the countdown to freedom begin!

Check out nuclear as well, just as high paying as oil and gas.
All these fools here that think Exxon is the only good company out there just makes me want to laugh. You've clearly lived in a bubble or have never had exposure in other sectors and or companies before. The fact is that you are jealous to see people leave b/c you wish you courage do the same but either you think so little of yourself or lack the courage to seek new exciting opportunities.
It’s not the red tape and process’s that push people over the edge. It’s the attitude of the company towards the workers. Forced layoffs and etc.
Fact that you blanket statement other careers outside of exxon a downgrade just shows the arrogance of this company. Bet this is the only company you have ever worked for and have zero view of other companies.
Fact that you see a “government position” as an upgrade, to me says you probably weren’t a good fit at Exxon. Unless you’re moving from retail.
Congrats. I'm in the process of trying to get back into the government job I left for xom. The government, at least the part I worked for, was 100x more efficient, organized, and able to set/meet goals than xom. Surprisingly even their general use of technology was better! This was not what I expected at all, but it's what I found and hopefully I'm able to correct my own situation. Congratulations again!
If you thought politics and red tape was bad at XOM, I have bad news for you about working for the government.
Congratulations! Woods will be so proud, and perhaps mentioned you and your gift during our next Employee Forum! Fond memories of the forum.. do you like pink flamingos?
You will still face some sort of competition as performance assessment there to. It is human nature to compete
Now, for sure, you can do a good day's work - and sleep at night.
Congrats!
Live long.
Congratulations
Osha!
