There have been annual layoffs for some time to weed out poor performers. With the never-ending M&A, larger waves like this will likely happen annually if the company continues to miss its performance goals, however, these seem to have hit some departments hard (marketing, legacy acquired companies) while other departments were spared (IT) so there is some method to their madness.

Not true about low performance employees being cut. some of our highest performers were laid off. the worst part is they made sure we don't have access to any pandemic resources including the additional unemployment benefits. Company made over $111 billion in profits in 2020 and laid off 10s of thousands of employees during the middle of a pandemic. They don't care about their members or their employees
It had nothing to do with poor performance, absolutely nothing!! People that excelled was laid off too!
I would say that the “method to their madness” is just that - they’re completely “mad” as in crazy. These people do.not.care.
