If you were impacted by recent lay offs. Please share your experience how you’re doing with job hunting , are you looking ? Taking time off? I heard the job market is brutal. Please share anything you can to give hope and encourage others in the same scenario.

What state were you in from WellCare?

I was laid off years ago during the recession after the housing market crash of 2008. I went into it with the attitude getting a job was my job. I even took a pay cut. Never popular but it positioned me to take my time to find something else later.

Apologies for typos in my post below....year is years, and surprise is surprised. Wish we had an edit function.

The market is very tough. My position was eliminated Jan 20 with a rideout till end of June. I was on the losing side of the WellCare acquisition and as it turned out, the elimination of my entire function and department. Elements such as your age, location, experience, seniority will all come into play.

I started looking after getting notice and the market in the middle of the pandemic was dead. It opened up a bit during the summer, but closed down from about October to the end of the year. It's perking along now in healthcare but again, it's difficult to land based on the above factors plus so many are looking and will take just about anything. Location is a little easier as a lot of positions have gone permanent remote.

Do not be surprised at all the 'frog' companies out there. It's not you. There are a lot of screwed up companies and teams. How effective business gets done has been a mystery to me for many years.

Get additional education and certificates to brush up your skills. Being where I was for a couple of year, I got a little rusty on things I need for the next job. I completed a grad level certificate in my field last year. There's Coursera, LinkedIn and other sources at free and minimal cost. You may want to examine your current direction and explore some others.

I've had some interesting conversations along the way. WellCare is just another company in the portfolio where I now have experience. It helps that my experience is strong in health tech, early-stage companies, and that I'm very open to FTE and consulting.

If you are looking at contract work, rates have cratered way below where they should be, so don't be surprise.
