Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why capitalism s---s!

Hi all, is it time to unionize?

What kind of fed up world do we take all the PhD, engineering and business degrees and intel workers get paid less than unionized blue collar workers with high school degrees.

It’s time to stand up for ourselves and these people at the top taking all the profits for themselves.

I prefer pensions to executive payouts.

TSMC is not unionized and they are doing well. If Intel becomes a union shop, you can say goodbye to the fabs.

Intel is a truly abusive company. It is abusive to both non-manufacturing and manufacturing employees. Intel always supports abusive managers and fails to protect employees. The company regularly crosses the line.

It is really torturous to read some of the employee lawsuits filed against Intel in various locations, Arizona, Ca etc. if you get a chance, just search the internet or court records. The complaints include similar story lines. They all start with abusive management and explain how HR and some co workers are used to make targeted employee’s life unbearable. Until the employee leaves or is fired or laid off. The ODI process and the so called managers’ witnesses (I.e. low integrity, spineless co-workers, more like con-workers). They all start with abusive, a– hole managers whom Intel, intel HR and intel legal fully support .

It is embarrassing to hear Management talk about one intel, inclusion vs. messages. Incompetent A–holes (worst employee type) actually survive and thrive at intel. Nothing has changed. And now the same company is looking for tax payer handouts to Build fabs. NO F...WAY. Now HR has initiatives to attract better talent to intel. I doubt intel will be able to hold on to the existing talent.

Is anyone familiar with the groups with people working over 60 with no overtime? Have you sat in a meeting where someone required that a TF meet over the weekend for something other than a lines down situation because that’s “One Intel?” Have you ever been complimented by the on-site doctors for your great health because they were used to seeing people come in with heart conditions who hadn’t even reached middle age? In these cases, capitalism has led to exploitation of workers, which is why balancing by a union could be effective.

I think in the mean time, having a low mortgage and living below your means is key in case you do become one of the people with health problems facing a divorce, etc. and have to quit.

Fact: 30 of the 50 Best Manufacturing companies in the USA are unionized. There are tons of studies on the impact of unionization on a firm's performance and in most cases, unions result in higher performing companies. Ask yourself who does not want a union? Managers and Executives (especially HR) because it limits their control and forces accountability while giving the employees that actually and literally do all of the work in the company a voice. Intel HR has specific standing instructions from executive stall to discourage unions at any cost. Nevertheless, it is illegal for Intel managers to discourage employees from organizing. "Both the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and the Taft-Hartley Act prohibit employers from discriminating against employees for participating in union activities. ... You have the right to express your views in an effort to persuade your employees not to join a union, and you also have the right to run your business."

This is a company of fire and ice
if you can't survive there, better leave
it's not helping yourself staying and complaining

Its so true for last 5 years at Intel. Folks at bottom are not rewarded while VP’s get promoted all the time. They get pushed aside and recycled with new blood -no path to promotion and will get laid off when sh– hits the fan. If there is a strong union like for teachers or safeway that wil save them from disaster. The company is just a d** machine, no loyalty whatsoever!

Capitalism rewards those who transform inputs into more valuable outputs. Many blue collar workers produce more value for consumers than certain Intel PhDs. In fact, there are plenty of negative value employees at Intel who are overpaid at any salary. I’m sure all of us can think of a few.

Salary is a reflection on how much others value what you do, not which diplomas you have on your wall. If you think your school grades entitled you to money, you were misinformed. If you think your employer undervalues your work, try to convince it of that fact, or convince another company. If you can’t find anyone who “properly” values you, maybe you’re the one with the warped idea about how much you’re worth.

I am in, if this happens I will gladly join. There are matters of safety at intel fabs that could also be strengthened by a union. Some people will say high fees, but you could vote for fees of $5/month, or something very low. Why all the down votes here, you would rather stand for ruthless corporations than workers rights? Why not have powerful representation on your side, just like companies do?
