Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Good Luck Everyone!

Hope next week goes well for everyone, but in reality we know that many will be affected. Regardless of the outcome, we all know that losing or keeping a job is not going to be constant, and change will come again for better or worse. Our profession is not the only thing that defines us, we have much more important things like our family and our health. So as hard as it could be to lose a position, please try to take care of yourself and people around you. Next week is not going to be easy so let’s not take it personal and overthink it. This shall pass too.

Ever think maybe you were let go because you can’t string together a coherent sentence there, chief?

I was let go in 2013. I am SOOO happy to see the oil industry/"energy" what ever you want to call it. There was defintaly a "Good ole boys club" When I was there. The workers didn't get much recognition. The ones that hung around the office and kissed but Sure did get the promotions!!!

Really toxic culture there in Bville. I think because small town gossip. I hope the ones that crossed me get theirs! Glad I am no longer in OKLAHOMA!!! TX and OK are cancer!

Sorry, mistreat employees?!? They pay people a lot more than most industries so don’t think that one will fly. I think they’re (ELT) just clinging onto hope of future price recoveries and growth. We never seem to go deep enough in these layoffs.

I wish oil companies would address how they consistently mistreat employees. I wonder if they realize every time they mess with people they leave those affected with post traumatic stress syndrome. This generally will result in paranoia in the future when layoffs are even hinted at. Overhiring by the companies and having no control on local budgets is the problem and layoffs are the result.

You don’t wish good luck to those that it’s certain they will have no luck.

This isn’t a game.

Those of you that will get the HR call, answer it show strength in your voice. You have achieved great things to get to the point you have. Leave with that, and on to your next adventure.

God speed.

I am so done with these layoffs. Glad I am out of O&G and will never ever go back. When it comes to layoffs, its the buddies, the sycophants (who would bake cakes for the boss!!) and the ones that are cheap that gets to stay. Talent and skills aren't even part of the equation. Experienced that first had in ConocoPhillips and Cenovus. And if you have a brown skin its the worst. Institutional racisms is rampant in O&G

All workers are impacted and we got our 60 days notice with that press release. If you can’t figure that out on your own, I hope you’ve already packed your stuff and made plans for life after COP.

Leaving voluntarily in fall 2015 was best decision of my career & such a positive rest of life saying I volunteered to retire too. I highly recommend same when U given the chance!

If you’re an employee, you’ve been told how this works several times in the last couple of months.

In December an article came out layoffs of at least 500 workers in Houston, and offering impacted employees 60 day advance notice.

So if you get notified you're being let go this week, you still can work 60 more days before you leave? or how does that work

Unfortunately, many are going to experience exactly what 9,000 other people have experienced over the past 6 years. And that doesn't include the many thousands laid off after the '08 crash and Conoco-Phillips 66 merger. You're in good company.

The endless layoffs are the worst part of working in this industry. There's a reason why total compensation packages are so high, especially for new hires. Most intelligent people would never subject themselves to this permanent torment for anything less.
