I know this might seem wrong to say right now with so many people being shown the door, but in all honesty I wish I was among them. At least those who were let go received a severance and can now start fresh with some king of a safety net. The rest of us will be expected to pick up the work of those who are gone for no extra pay, of course. And when we can't get everything done in time because it's not humanly possible with all the work we're already expected to do, they'll have a reason to fire us. So that'll be fun.

You really do not want to be laid off unless you already near retirement or have another job lined up.
However, I do realize there is such a thing as evil management. The only recommendation is try to stay low and quiet. The least number of emails and meetings you have the better. And pray there is a major problem in another area so you will not be bothered.
They want you to quit. That is how they win. But you lose UE and severance. And perhaps early retirement benefits depending upon your age.
This is a lose lose situation. If they are mean to you they want you out. But they want you to quit. If you do not quit they will RIF you. In Centenes layoffs, it was a combination of folks they hate and folks they like since it is all about money. Getting rid of talent is just plain stupid. But public companies live on short term gains. It is not what the stock price is two years from now. It is what the stock price is next week.
I was laid off, but they did me a huge favor as I was already looking..I was laid off last wednesday , had an interview on Thursday and job offer on Friday...
Centene is an awful company with horrible managers that do not understand their jobs..there is no leadership, only scare tactics..employees are so over worked and treated badly, because Centene doesn't care about anyone the members, providers or the employees..
They will certainly turn Magellan into trash as well..Neidorff tries to sell his lies to the employees...Innovative my you know what..
Glad for the favor now I get a free vacation on Centenes tab
Has anyone been laid off and then called back or was is permanent?
Working for salary and doing the job 4 people used to do, third round of layoffs this year. I was disciplined for vocalizing that the company is asking us to do what isn't humanly possible. And during a pandemic when the most vulnerable whom we work with are in need of more help than ever before, yet resources are almost nonexistent. I've been told to think of it as Job Security and learned to keep my mouth shut. I guess the billions of dollars Centene made last year wasn't enough for them. The only thing that keeps me sane is knowing I help people every day. The company is ruthless, and they don't listen to the employees who actually do the work. All they care about is money.
I was cut Thursday, along with my peer and I'm not at all upset. The workplace became toxic since Centene took over WellCare. The upper level management was brutal. My coworkers were going out on mental leave left and right due to work related stress. It was so unfortunate because I used to love my job and it quickly declined to pure hate. I was thrilled when I got the meeting invite, I knew exactly what it meant. I feel sickened for my coworkers left there who will have to work triple for the same pay. They are left to pick up the pieces and will be doing a job they are not ready for. I truly will miss them and enjoyed my time with them. So I do understand what you are saying by posting this but I also feel horrible for the people that aren't in the same situation as me. Although I'm happy for it, I'm so sad for all of the others who got let go. I wish ALL of you the very best - the ones still employed and the ones that were let go.
I last worked for Centene in 2019. They were the big fish that ate up healthnet and MHN. I started working for MHN/Healthnet in 2011; it was wonderful; great teams, directors, and coworkers. Our VP in California was awesome. Then 2016 happened, and this unethical mean spirited company took over. Slowly at first, but to quote Neirdorff: “The culture of Centene will prevail.” It became a nightmare for me until they fired me for no good reason. I was outspoken and complained about favoritism. Always a bad move, but I couldn’t stand what was going on there. I would have much rather go through a lay off any day. The severance they’re giving isn’t bad, but MHN in years prior gave one month ago of pay and benefits for every year of work. That was the best deal. Centene gives two weeks severance when you’re fired, so you don’t want that. You’re right that after the lay offs they’ll start firing people because it’s cheaper. If it was me I’d ask to be part of the RIF now. Unemployment insurance is sustainable during the pandemic, which helps. In 2019 I got another job within a month, but that was then. For therapists and RNs I’d look at Anthem; good remote jobs even though the salary may be less. Good luck; you’ll all be ok. Centene is not a worker centered culture at all! Some places are!
Don't worry, you eventually will be. I've been there, done that as a survivor with at least two companies that I can recall. Make no mistake, you're going to be slammed with work and perhaps reorganized. Take as much advantage as you can out of this lousy situation. Hang on as long as you can but also put guardrails on to keep your sanity, e.g turning off the computer and the phone.
The other thing you must do is Be Ready to Go as these layoffs aren't going to end. Get finances in order. Get yourself back looking and in the market as a job you do every evening and weekends. Get resume and LI profile updated, get interviewing. Yes, I know it's tough, but it is doable. It will save your sanity. I can also testify to that.
Trust me as one of the 3000 who no longer has a job March 4th...you don’t understand what you are wishing for. I am a widow, in my 50’s, with health issues. No other source of income. You have no idea how difficult it will be finding another job, working from home. Most of us that were laid off are older it seems. I tell you what.... I will be glad to take your position and work my butt off, like I have for the past 34 years of my nursing career any day of the week.....just let me know when and where to start, and you can go on a job search....
My thoughts exactly, they did me a favor, was just offered a position I applied for last spring, before I can put in my two weeks notice they laid me off and offered me severance package. So now I’ll keep quiet and collect their money. Those that they’re keep for now will be over worked and under paid!
With all the layoffs and not just here, nearly all the super VP and VP and super Directors (so many layers) are protected. I always wonder if these folks I never hear about actually work a full day. Yes, there are some dept that work 16 hours a day, but I am sure some VP are just having it easy.
The issue is not the work. It is the constant whip and cruel management style.
You do not want to be fired. You do not want to be RIF. You do not want to work for the company. You do not want to quit without a good job waiting. But out of the options above, I take the RIF and work on getting a good job.
