DS ran Noble's forward looking economics at $50 flat. Looks like that was a pessimistic assumption. Of course, what he was really trying to do was sell out and cash in. Only thinking of himself and not the company or the employees. He made the most of a narrow window of opportunity. Everyone figured this out awhile back, but it doesn't hurt to repeat it. Chevron got a heck of a deal. The international assets alone will pay for their acquisition costs.

Noble was a joke. DS had no idea whet he was doing. Worst run outfit in the patch. Complete incomplete.
DS sold the company down the river so he could personally gain from it. It was the best option for him, so he pursued it. Nobody stopped him. He learned it from watching ARCO getting sold down the river to BP.
WTI at 66 now. Noble Execs and board couldn't hold out for a few more months????
Anyone that worked with DS closely will tell you he is a pessimist with zero self confidence.
