Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Let's help each other; what skills have you picked up whiled at follett?

A recurring theme, on this board, is I don't have skills that transfer to a "regular" job. I sense this is one reason so many are slow to leave this sinking dumpster fire of a disaster of a company.
Let's help each other. What skills are acquired while working at follett?
Time management
POS interface
excel and word proficiency
time reporting
account management (if you're working with university officials, faculty and staff)
punctuality and superior attendance
merchandising
inter company communication

Please add to the list. You have skills you can document and those skills transfer. GET OUT!

I'm able to twirl a pencil from my thumb to my pinky and back without dropping it. Numerous conference calls and boring meetings allowed me to the master this amazing skill.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but those are very mundane skills that are expected everywhere. If you try to sell your resume on that, you will not get many hits.

How about:

$X million in purchasing/procurement experience.
Supervised X FT/PT staff, wrote annual reviews, knowledgeable in FMLA, FLSA, and wage/hour laws.
Marketing and advertising (this is what faculty relations and adoption solicitation really is)
Sales negotiation (bundles vs text only, new vs used, pitched to students, faculty and admin)

Was your store remodeled while you were there? You consulted/involved in capital improvements/remodels.

Contract management.

Logistics and supply chain planning.

Budget manager, responsible for sales goals, expense management.

If you are applying to other jobs within colleges, the fact that you have worked in an academic environment is a plus, because you know the industry.

I never worked for Follett, but I did work for institutional stores and BNED. I work for a college as an administrator in charge of facilities and auxiliary services.
