Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Want to resign immediately

A situation happened yesterday that caused me to have a nervous breakdown. I feel that I can no longer work here for another second. I would like not to report to work next week.
The information I get about the time I will have to spend here after I resign is contradictory.

Is there anyone who has been in a similar situation? Thanks for any advice.

Please call your doctor and get help. There is a mental health crisis and people are suffering and your employer is causing and/or adding to existing stress. I wish you the best.

Allstate will not allow you to stay when you give a 2 weeks notice. They will have you gone that day. They are afraid you might start compiling Allstate information to give to a new employer. Not sure WHY anyone would want to know anything about Allstate. Obviously horribly mis-managed

File work comp for injury caused by severe mental strain from job expectations. PTSD from documented supervisor conversations about metrics.

Most states will not pay unemployment for giving a company notice that you are going to a competitor. First companies have the right to terminate you if you state you are going to a competitor for proprietary concerns and this is considered a choice of the employee and would not qualify for unemployment. And to tell Allstate that you are going to a competitor to try and bait them into a termination when you have no job with a competitor lined up is falsified information that unemployment would frown upon even if the propriety right protection of Allstate was not considered in your termination.

Call your doctor. Apply for short-term disability.

Give notice, let it leak out you are going to a competitor so they terminate, you can then qualify for unemployment

I too have lost all motivation. It’s a chore just to get up and sign into my computer every day. I got a very high ranking on my performance review last year. I have a feeling this year won’t be so great. But you know what? I just don’t care! I listen to my co-workers in our huddle on a daily basis ready to break down. I refuse to break. Not for this he’ll hole! Lay me off!

I also recommend the short term disability route. In some cases you can get it for quite some time and you can look for another job. That way you don't resign without income as most state will not pay unemployment for self resigning. I am not at all surprised that this sewer of a company has pushed you to this. It is a horrible toxic abusive environment and management at all levels have their marching orders to push us all to the breaking point to get us to self quit thus reducing the numbers, cutting payroll costs, and not having to pay you the eventual severance that will be coming to almost all of us in the next few years. About 6 months ago this company had me to about the point you are. But I simply cut back on my work stress by reducing my work output and placing myself from a better than expected employee to a barely expected. Better than expected got me no where as it is just an imaginary brass ring that means nothing. Now I just tool along with much less stress and drama doing about 4 hours of work a day and waiting and praying for my 60 day notice and juicy 1 year severance pay. They are going to pony up for all the stress and abuse.

If you’re truly have a mental health crisis, you can see a doctor and take time off under short term disability. You can get paid while working on yourself and looking for a new job instead of outright quitting.

Unless you have a contract, which is rare, you can quit effective immediately.

The usual two weeks notice is a curtesy nor a requirement.
