Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is att the next frontier?

I laughed at this news article (see following link). They are running this id–tic add bashing cable companies upload speeds and touting fiber. The problem? Fiber is way less widespread than cable high speed. I have a gig from Comcast and I use att as my backup as I need to ensure I have service all the time as both my wife and I work from home. But 3meg I’m north Hollywood? Wow. That’s not high speed. That’s like 56k back in the days. https://redstate.com/alexparker/2021/02/10/aaron-epstein-internet-att-speed-slow-ads-wall-street-journal-n324990

What a laugh...there’s no work out there and it has gotten worse this year! Not sure what T will do about it, but it’s time to start worrying if you’re not already! I’ve never seen it this bad before...stand by for more excitement in the T drama miniseries!

Now that T is relegated to third place behind TMUS and Verizon in the wireless arena, with little chance of increasing customer base. It appears that FTTP is the only way to move the company forward and stem the loss of customers.

Mr. Stanky: how did AT&T go bankrupt? Gradually then suddenly.

@1caf+19mvLK8W - keep checking your speeds. read the fine print no speed is guaranteed.

I had Comcast for years as it was the only choice. AT&T DSL was too slow, even for free. AT&T put Fiber in my neighborhood and it is a way superior experience in every way to that of Comcast. My Comcast would fail for 10-15 minutes almost weekly - and if it rained, God help you. In three or four years with AT&T Fiber I have had 3 outages, two of which were because a neighbor was having fiber installed and the tech damaged my drop at the pod. It's symmetrical and fast with very good latency numbers... on a good day I see 900+mb/s up and down (not as often since COVID). Comcast was in the 600-700 range (pre-COVID). Comcast's draconian "specials" and pricing were terrible. Their support was in The Philippines and while polite, were absolutely worthless beyond resetting the gateway.

If I was fired from AT&T today, I would still keep AT&T Fiber. It's excellent.

Next Frontier? I hope not, Frontier went "belly up", and is struggling to pay the bills today. Please don't even joke about this. The last thing we need to see is T declaring bankruptcy.

Not even close to being a Frontier... compare the company financials, you will see a huge difference.

"I laughed at..."
I'm laughing at, why are we hearing what you thing you are laughing at, as opposed to that new job where you are making money hand over fist? I think the truth is, you aren't laughing at all, washout.
You are not going to go anywhere unless you move on.

"No, you cannot get it cheaper, and no, the service is not throttled. Cool made-up story, troll."

Not made up don't know if they were throttling or not but my speeds were not the same after 6 months. In the beginning it was around 900 up and down. then after about six months it went to 100 - 200 up and down. And no way in hexx was going to deal with att support for something I should be getting that I was paying good money for and this was after I left att.

so I dropped them like a rock because of course att has in the fine print no speed is guaranteed. see att is a fine print company. advertise everything and get you to sign and then stick everything in the fine print. nothing honest and straight forward about att.

no I am not an employee of comcast i am speaking strictly as a customer and I will never buy any service from att ever again. they will get zero of my money.

Thought this was a layoff board and it turns out it’s just a bunch of Comcast employees posting about AT&T.

LOL, did the person who mentioned that fiber is superior to coax, did. You really read your post before posting it? It’s no different than if cable was bashing copper. Comparing fiber speed to cables speed is useless and only low information people will fall for that nonsense. Why not compare their fiber with cable company’s fiber. Did you all know cable companies are running fiber too? You can get symmetrical gig from cable companies, what ATT should do is tout its price advantage over cable coax, the average person who wants high speed internet dont give a damn about that fiber is faster than cable companies upload speed. Today I compared my Comcast 1gig to my ATT 24/6 and I just laughed at T’s pathetic version. They better come up with a winning strategy soon, doing commercials like the one I mentioned wont have people flocking to them unless cable is not available. Juts ask that guy who paid over 1k to run ads criticizing T.

Fiber is awesome. . .

IF you can get it.

AT&T isn't going to deploy fiber in neighborhoods they don't believe they'll see a return on their investment ( which, is actually smart ) but it means that the availability of Fiber to the Home / Hub is going to be very limited.

Contrast this with Cable / Coax penetration and even an id–t can see that super fiber speeds are irrelevant if the company isn't going to bother running fiber in your neighborhood.

Us: Fiber is awesome! Can we get it ?
Them: No.

Hence, in the grand scheme of things until fiber deployment is as widespread as Coax flavored broadband, Coax > Fiber ( because at least we can get coax ).

Well, the ads are accurate in that fiber service is far superior to cable in all aspects including upload speeds. The 3Mb speed you refer to is copper based and while yes that is still out there, that’s not what the ads are comparing to cable. Reading and listening comprehension skills are important. Now, go find someone thing else to cry about.

“ fiber works when you don't get it from att and they throtlle you back down to 100mb speed. had att fiber and after six months the speeds dropped to 100 meg and 200 meg. can get that a lot cheaper than from someone else than att.”

No, you cannot get it cheaper, and no, the service is not throttled. Cool made-up story, troll.

att is just crooked and they will rip their customers off any chance they get.
