Hopefully we are all familiar with the TV show "Survivor." How many of us realistically think we will survive this season, when it comes to our jobs at XOM?

At this point, it dies come down to survival. They’ve already decided who’s next to be cut just pay close attention. For example if you’re part of a reorg and no one tells you and you weren’t part of the formal notification called an announcement. Your duties have changed and you haven’t a clue what to do because the person previously in that role is a priMadonna and doesn’t remember anything. It’s been ONE week and you have amnesia? The new manager doesn’t respond to your questions. Yep! You’ve got a target on your back. It doesn’t end there but, that’s OK. God has something better in store.
Interested in your thoughts. Do you think we should also hire across all CL levels or only new graduates?
No matter whether hiring or not, every company has people at the bottom of the rank list who for whatever reason simply are no longer competitive with the workforce. A more typical annual cleanup is closer to 5%. If a company doesn’t regularly clean up, over a period of a few years they end up with more and more people not pulling their weight. Just bad business.
Explain why annual cleanup should be 3% in a company that is not hiring? That's called a layoff, not a performance assessment.
@1ryc+19lbxMPU Yes, most will "survive." An old saying comes to mind: When your neighbor is out of work it's a recession, but when you are out of work it's a depression.
Hope we don't just survive, but thrive in this upside down world / times we live in today! GLTA
The overwhelming majority of employees will survive. The company target was a workforce reduction of 15%, including contractors. Not sure how many were lost to layoff, retirements and attrition, but I would guess over half of the target was met. Each one will hurt, but probably no more than another 5% or so will be impacted. Normal annual cleanup should be at least 3%, so not that much more than status quo.
