Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Claims employee- do you feel unappreciated; do you feel they are pushing the older folks out?

We all know that this is not the company that it used to be. Ever since we went to the new model, numbers have been crunched for raises and compensation for on the spot awards etc. In the meantime’s numbers have been increased for metrics, and do more and still perform that remarkable service. I feel the harder I work in although able to attain the metrics and beyond that there is very little reward.

I truly feel there is some a lot of age discrimination. The new hires or those within five years are getting better levels And also a higher percentage increase. The job should be handled on the mirror it’s not necessarily what your tenure or your salary is. I feel that the young ones are getting the fours and fives and doing sh– work... or maybe cheating to get the clicks to go beyond metrics and be superstars. The tenure folks are getting an average level rating. Does this affects the EIP and also the percentage of rays that they get.

Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful that we even get a raise compared to some companies out there or some Americans who actually lost her job because of corona. However, the company made a record breaking profit last year. We our face-to-face with a customer and claims and a lot of times we have to deliver dismal news yet we aren’t compensated for it.

It is ironic, that I have helped train some of these new people coming in not as an official trainer but as a mentor on our teams. We had a girl last year who had been on the floor for 10 months who told me she got a level four and a 4% increase of a raise.... which meant she got 150% on EIP. I mentored her and also continued to do so and correct her mistakes, yeah I get a 1% and 100% EIP because of a level three.

I so wish that the farm would offer early buyout. I don’t know how much longer I can take in this toxic environment.

Has anyone else seen this issue of discrimination or favoritism?

Unappreciated employees.....I was one of those!! A few years away from retirement, topped out at the RA2 salary, Health issues, and a new TM who took a dislike to me. I had always received average or exceptional ratings in my multi decade career until this TM. I had always done what was asked of me, went beyond in customer service but nothing satisfied my TM. Every comment was negative. Every opinion, every response, everything I did was wrong! I lost all my confidence. My TM turned everyone against me and it was a toxic situation. I had seen this before with the same TM with multiple other employees, but the SM, CM, nor HR would do anything about it.

I believe they were able to terminate me so they could hire 2 1/2 employees to replace me. SF wants to replace all their tenured employees with newer lower salaried employees and continue to line the pockets of the Biard.

wow that is concerning , just went to the all state section and they are panicking, India is taking over claims and somehow getting around the licensing issues, if they are successful in this then it worries me state farm would think to do this

their plan to lay off claims is end of 2021 so SF if next you are looking at a few years but let me say this, be prepared, not trying to scare anyone but have a backup plan , go look at their section and make your own mind, if they succeed with no backlash who do you think is going to try this next? https://www.thelayoff.com/t/19spx6hB

Remember what they say and what they do are not the same. As an old man, it's fun to watch what I once told them coming true. CHAOS and greed causes failure.

Because you have a drivers license doesn't mean you know how to drive! There are tons in management who have a corvette but don't know how to drive it or work on it!

I don't now how many years the OP has with State Farm, BUT the more time you are there the worse that feeling is in reality. They are no different than DC. They have a good ol' boys club and if you don't "fit in" with their "better than thou and cancel culture" they will be looking to anyway they can to make your life miserable. Mind you: They always speak with a forked tongue by stating they are inclusive and are a learning organization. You have no constitution and you have no say unless you talk the talk of the supreme leader.

@3jiz think about what you wrote. Are you seriously asking if you should look for a new job based on an unsubstantiated rumor about another company?

Rumor has it that ALL big blue is laying off entire US claims force to outsource to India. Any chance that happens here? I Need to plan for all contingencies while there is a job market

I wouldn't say its hostile. The new direction moving forward is about personal development. Learn to be agile. The problem is to many people get comfortable just doing what they do. Take advantage of the tools they provide for development young or old.

I agree. I am an older worker in Claims. I am working for the pension. It’s about clicks but not thorough investigations. The younger ones know all the tips and tricks while the older ones are finishing their work. I hope to take my pension in two years! Hang in there

Have you considered leaving and working somewhere else? I don’t understand the misery that older employees put themselves through. Nobody holds a gun to your head and forces you to go to work for SF every day.

Claims is a total mess, how about returning a few calls and settling some claims correctly, then maybe you would be deserving of a raise, maybe.

Lotsa RA4s not even doing close to hard work or that level of work while everyone else does the work they don’t want to. Levels and levels of waste calling it “leadership”.

Nah, they p–p on Claims fairly equally, with the exception of it’s not who you know, but who you blow.

Since you are working claims, consider this: Get a job as a deployable rep. You work for new people regularly, can impress them and they will report back to your TM. On the flip side, you get left alone, nobody screws with you so long as you do your job well. Just a thought.

If you haven't figured it out yet, it is obvious what they do. They do not live in the world of truth nor keeping promises. They will promise you the moon and when you get within reach they will pull the rug out from under you. If you "fit in and are in with 'them'" (which are few) then you are OK; otherwise you are a disposable expense. The more you buy into the cult elitist narrative, the harder it is to recognize what they are selling. Understand this and you will be a lot better off. They are politicians and are not to be trusted. They are out for their benefit only and not for the employee like they used to be.
