ExPat Facilities Engineer was successfully finished with asset building assignment, returned to HQ after a 27-hour flight, and was met at the reception desk (to pick up his Houston badge) by HR person with the white folder.

Once heard of a supervisor that was too afraid to hold the meeting. So they just had HR revoke badge access

Rotator was DRIVING his way to work when he got an email with an AIRLINE TICKET. HR sent him his ticket home two weeks before his supervisor was to let him go.

I know someone who was 2 weeks from the full retirement package and was let go and escorted out. The guy worked for them his entire career and was devastated after 40 plus years and had to go out on a job hunt instead of starting his retirement. He had very good review that year as well. It was completely p1zz poor to do that.

One or two rounds ago, someone in a lowly support position was mistakenly on the layoff list. When the supervisor realized the mistake, he just let the guy be laid off, rather than admitting the mistake and risk looking bad to others. The needed position was refilled with someone new - probably while the unlucky guy was still on job hunt. Zero accountability. Zero respect for a co-worker’s livelihood. Zero dignity.

This might get some of your MAGA panties in a bunch, but in some of the earlier rounds they let go of some immigrant employees that were being sponsored by the company and were just months away from being eligible for a green card, but without a job, had to go back to their home country if they couldn't find another company willing to sponsor them in a short amount of time.

A bunch of women who had taken maternity leave the year prior got let go one round. The company fell back on that they only let people go who had low ratings in the past couple years, but neglect to realize that it is virtually impossible to get a differential rating in a year that you took maternity leave, no matter how great you performed.

A few rounds ago there was a couple who both worked here and one was let go. That part is pretty commonplace. There have been quite a few instances of spouses here, and I haven't seen where BOTH spouses were cut in the same round. Anyway, in this instance, the 'surviving' spouse was moved to work for the same supervisor that managed the remnants of the team the laid off spouse worked on. They had to work side by side with the people that were kept and moved to the team instead of their spouse, and for the supervisor who played a part in that decision. When brought to the attention of the supervisor by numerous people, it was revealed that the implications of this were never considered, and then no effort was made to rectify the situation by orchestrating a swap with another team. Needless to say, the 'surviving' spouse lost all respect for the people they worked for, their work and mental health suffered, and was an obvious/easy cut in the next round of layoffs.

Three way tie: 8-figure severance packages for ELT members and other executives, using EOI as a weapon against employees, and laying off employees just months short of company pension or medical retiree benefits dates. I can’t give the actual examples here, but if you ask around you’ll find all three of these verified.

The first round in 2015. When many people had 30-40 years pf experience with company and were escorted out, like criminals. They didn’t have the opportunity to come back, pick up their stuff nor say good bye.
Thankfully they stopped this awful practice after a lot of critics
