Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Allstate to reduce agency footprint in 3 of 4 zones

Just had a casual pow wow with my area's agency sales lead and they revealed that Allstate is planning to reduce the agency footprint by around 1/3 this year in all zones minus the Charlotte zone. There is no reduction planned in Charlotte zone as of yet. Allstate has found in the three affected zones that customer usage and the resulting shown need for agents warrants this elimination of agents and the expenses they carry.

It is assumed that total sales, renewal rates within agency books, retention within their book, and their efforts in service and retention of corporate bound policies will determine which agencies are termed and their books absorbed into corporate as found warranted.

There are no confirmed dates or timelines of when this is to take place within and when impacted agencies will be notified.

reducing agencies is the first part of the plan, what is being said in inner circles is that the next layoffs after agency footprint is reduced is to cut the recruiters that were helping the agents find staff, they cut them once already and this would complete the long term plan.

When (not if) this happens Allstate's retention numbers will be abysmal. The Allstate book of business will be raided by their former agents. I would predict the drop in retention to be in the 15% to 20% range. The Agents will not go after the garbage internet customers. The seasoned agents will go after the "High Life Time" value customers that they have built a relationships with over time. You will see this happen over the next year. The Allstate non-compete is up after 2 years. It will be the wolf in the Hen House!

This is pretty much verbatim what our zone sales told us here in Texas. Should hear more by summer.

Once TW leaves, all historic reference to the past will go away. The new blood running the show will only get more cut throat with the moves being planned out now.

Many saw this coming years ago it seemed like the more they scaled back away from the Agents the more they were trying to discourage them. It started from taking away the free Allstate Logo paper to no longer free sending the office brochures then suddenly the telephones became an independent thing. I think it boils down to the fact that just like with any thing else Agents aren't really needed. When a consumer can click on a website or tap an app and do things for themselves. Many of the middle to younger generations are use to electronic forms of doing things therefore Allstate is probably looking at its own pockets and doing away with the cost of Agents. Of course the Agents write business but look at how even that's changed. All from the ridiculous new business requirements to the bogus renewal guidelines just to write one policy.

Word on the street is Glenn and Terrance are leading the agency force into a black hole. They have never been transparent in any town hall. Nor do they have a plan to grow.

This is seriously the strangest times at Allstate. I remember before they laid my group off they were touting the agency ownership as an option to transition into. The company set up presentations and brought in agency liaisons to sell it to the employees. I know a couple people who fell for it. Now 8 months later they are terminating the agency and going direct to consumer selling?? These people running this show need to go to jail or for the lies and misdirection they are slopping all over people. I also remember when they hired a bunch of people only to close the office 2 years later.. this is a multi billion dollar corporation. Companies this size know what they are going to do 10 to 20 years in advance but it seems like the Allstate Corporates don’t know what their plan is for tomorrow. It’s just so strange, I think the company is going up on the auction block in a few years... that’s the only thing that makes sense in the behavior of these clowns.
