Bring back training

As a new hire I am so disappointed that all training has been cancelled for a year now as well as the education reimbursement program. Anyone know when these may return?

I really don’t miss sitting in a classroom for 3 days and learn how to be assertive.

Seriously, you are worrying about no training and no education reimbursement? Worry about no 401k match and no salary treatment in the foreseeable future.

To those who say no training because of COVID I say I already had it and it was nothing. I guess I am a lucky one. I caught it at work although MIG says otherwise. I hadn’t left my house other than to go to the office for weeks when I came down with it. Had groceries delivered etc. I am also not afraid to get the vaccine. So yeah, some of us are ready to go to face to face meetings. If I catch it again I will quarantine again so as to not expose those who might react different than I do.

I don’t know what the OP does, but I know on the upstream side of things, Exxon has always been too cheap to hire petroleum engineers that know what they are doing on their first day in the office. Instead they hire mechanical and chemical engineers then make them take Exxon classes that a petroleum engineer would have already taken. So, I can definitely feel for the OP if that is their situation. Another “brilliant” Exxon practice.

Complaining about no F2F training during a pandemic. Lol! What a bunch of spoiled t–ds.

There are plenty of webcat modules and training documents to self learn from. In addition, the company is still doing virtual training to supplement. Those that need to be spoon fed training will really end up in the NSI bucket and PIP'd soon anyway. At smaller companies, internal documents like this are nonexistent so learning and growth of slowed. If you just want to use the companies money to pay for edu and certificates then hop to another company, it doesn't help this company anyway.

To those jaded and worn out souls still here, I really think our new hire friend has a point. Investment in training amounts to investment in the future of the company. Clearly we've stopped supporting training and if we're honest it's a trend that began well before COVID and the current price crunch. What does that suggest about our management's faith in the future? Rather than look for ways to build this company to be stronger tomorrow, they're just trying to strip it for parts.

Hey new hire... do need me to cut your meat and chew it for you too? Geez! Lots of people just lost their jobs and you sound like a spoiled punk. Next, you’ll ask for 12 weeks of PPTO so you can “bond” with your new baby?

One of the worst company for training, especially if you want anything valuable as a credential. They are scared if you jump ship. So here are your options: You can go to linkedin or you can get a $65 voucher for a training session at airport marriott, or you can try the toastmaster for free.

Yes there is lot of free training in webcat modules, ask your supervisor and he/she can give you more about online/computer-based training. Days of classroom training are over. Now with online sessions and video training - you can stop/restart anytime, no travel, no hotel and no wasted time.

Also there are many low cost training programs available - see

People are losing their jobs and you want the company to spend money on training for a new hire? Oh, the humanity!

There is plenty of webcats that you can flip to wrt training and study on your own. There are many zoom calls for classroom training also. I've literally been to 3 in the last few months (arguably versus previous years with more flexibility wity remote learning)

As a new hire, I'm not quite sure why you really need education reimbursement...

You still can take many trainings on LinkedInLearning via corporate website and add your Linkedin profile if it makes sense (there are some good ones). While it's not the same as in-person training, it's still not that bad.

Forget about education reimbursement until fall 2022 at the earliest.

Training? There's more training available than you could possibly complete over the next few years.

If you like classroom, in-person training, well that's another story (pretty old-fashioned for a new-hire).
