Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Hostile work environment

Has State Farm always had work environment that was this hostile? I'm relatively new, started less than two years ago and I have to say, this is the worst place I've worked for by far. It's not even the low pay or lack of any meaningful bonuses. It's the constant hostility from the bosses and coworkers. You have to watch your back 24/7, which makes it really hard to do your actual work. Has it always been like this or am I just that unlucky?

You gotta admit that the anti-social media sites like this can be much more informative about the real world problems we face.

@3nuh You are so correct it is a fear based company. When employees live in fear, it is certain there is hostility in the work environment. This goes back to the punk era and many of the leaders nowadays were what we once called punks. I pray that God calls them out someday.

Sell and share your data and exploit and score ya. Leaders get big win. It’s never about customers. It’s about data integrations and buying snd selling leads and slamming you with “special” offers and pricing and tracking you if you are a Top Tier opportunity. The heck with all you poor “irresponsible” risky people

It’s a show. At your expense It’s not insurance or business. It’s networks

2pbe Really now! Who are you to determine whether or not a persons life is happy? Who put you in the position of judgment? Old miserable comment when you have no idea who is making the remark? You are part of the problem and not the solution! You probably have preached diversity and inclusion and yet your comments are very far from inclusion. This attitude in what got "The Farm" where it is now. It appears from your remarks you don't care about your minions/kids. They are the one's keeping the promise and are begging for the respect they rightfully deserve rather and deflecting from the cause. Remember, you cancel someone no matter how off the wall they may seem to you, you may never learn the valuable inherent good they may have. Now go in peace, and learn to respect others because the world is NOT all about ME!

Keep in mind that you are going to get incredibly biased answers on here. This forum is ran by old miserable employees that refuse to take control of their own lives, and blame their employer for not providing them with personal happiness. Nobody is forced to work their jobs against their will. Not happy? Leave.

The experience the previous post described an unhealthy boiler room operation where everyone's mental state has been pushed to the max.

I'm sorry OP is having a hard time. I know how hard it is to work for this company now. It used to be much better.

But Hostile work enviroment is a legal term, and it has nothing to do with what youre describing. Legal elements that have nothing to do with your describing. Here's a description from the net:

The actions or behavior must discriminate against a protected classification such as age, religion, disability, or race. The behavior or communication must be pervasive, lasting over time, and not limited to an off-color remark or two that a coworker found annoying.

Your boss being mean and stern is not a hostile work enviroment, and coworkers being surly a-holes is not a hostile work enviroment.

That being said, everyone hates working at SF, what SF has done and will do, will just make it worse, and people have been increasingly lashing out on each other. It has happened in my office for awhile now. One of the supervisors even said something to me about it, how everyone is complaining and snitching on each other, to the point that they say people are yelling at each other when they are not even mad and just having normal conversations. Which makes no sense, so anyway, people are looking for reasons to be angry or offended because they are under stress.

REMEMBER THIS! State Farm gives you nothing! You work for it. You came there looking for a job and you can leave there looking for a job. They want to make it sound like they are giving you something BUT just BEWARE they give you nothing and what you get is what you earned. There is one exception to this. The only exception is if you "fit in" and sell your life to the unethical corporate elitist group. The longer you are there the more obvious this becomes.

When I started as a claim rep in a field office my first manager told me "I don't care when you come in or when you leave. Just answer your phone calls and do your claims properly. I don't want customer complaints."
It was actually a fun job. Customers were happy and retention was at its highest. SF employees were considered the cream of the industry.
Of course everything changed after about 2010.

The company has always had an a$$ kissing culture. No one wants to give nor hear any constructive or negative feedback, lest they be labeled as negative. This is why problems take so long to get fixed as the feedback gets filtered several times such that the true message doesn’t get conveyed. And For years, changes were made just for the sake of change, or because they could.

Started not terribly long ago as a CA in Injury. During one of the training beaks I was walking around the LOC and passed a fellow employee. Didn’t know him but he looked at me with haunted eyes and in a hushed tone said as long as I kept my head down I’d do fine. God’s honest truth! At the time I thought it bizarre. I think about that warning every so often as I’m reading through the latest Segment Feedback that usually shows up 24-48 hrs after commenting in virtual huddle about the lunacy of the latest policy/procedure or justifying my metrics because a PA4 suddenly accuses me of cheating.

It used to be the world's largest Mom & Pop company. Once Tipsord took over it's been going downhill every since. All he is concerned about is a dollar. No concern for personnel and his boot-licking minions under him are even worse (especially Yi)! The turnover rate in claims is untenable (to say the least) and virtual training is a joke (but hey, it saves money!!). Just my two cents, run. Most here have too much time invested and have golden handcuffs. If you leave now, you'll make more money, guaranteed. May not make as much long term but the way exec is reducing pay raise percentages, that probably won't be an issue for much longer either.

It used to be a wonderful place to work out in the field offices when they had them. I came to Corporate in 1999 and saw a huge difference. I never noticed the backsta b bi ng and cult bee ess until then. I'm so sorry it's come to this. My employer was a point of pride for many years but it became a point of anger and frustration. I'm just so very thankful to have been part of the fat that was cut in 2018.

It hasn't always been like that. The sweatshop environment started to emerge around 2014 when the company shifted its culture. Many people have left, many stay due to the golden handcuffs. Get your experience and move on to another industry.

Welcome to hypocrisy. It's all about absolute power and control over you. Diversity with NO inclusion. Your opinion means nothing to them.
